When I do that I hear a cracking noise and sometimes it's quite loud. Has anyone had a simmilar problem and did they go to a chiropractor about it? Do you know if it can be cured?

I've been to my doctor and he thinks it isn't seriously damaged. I get a burning feeling in the back of my neck sometimes.

There is no "overnight" cure, you need to stretch the muscles. If it's the left side that is stiff, then while sitting in a chair, drop your left shoulder down and hold onto the bottom of the seat while gently leaning your head towards the right side, hold this for 30 seconds to 1 minute and do this several times a day. It may take a couple weeks for you to realize that you have results. Also increasing your muscles in your back/shoulders will help. (I also had bad neck pain [ie. "pinched nerve"] for several years; I saw a physcial therapist that recommended the above and I have not had a neck problem since.)

Why one earth would you go so long before seeing a chiropractor or bone specialist? Obviously its either bone, cartilage or muscle related....so get an x-ray done of your entire spine from top of the neck to lumbar region. I say this because if you have technical difficulties thats one issue (ie curvature of the spine or some locking of bone - doesnt have to be in the neck area), mechanical issues are another (slouching, tensing of muscles) are another issue.

It also may be something very simple...like the pillow you sleep on is too high or too low.

See this site and go through the possibilities;
