Birds are easily stressed and she is probably still adapting to a new environment (your home). Unlike dogs & cats, that are predators, birds are prey animals and are constantly on guard in a strange place. If you have other pets in the household this, too, can add to the stress.

Most animals will not starve if there is food available. And there will probably be no real harm if she goes a couple of days without eating. Make sure her cage is up high (where she will feel safer), keep fresh food & water available, and leave her alone as much as possible for the first few days so she can adjust to her new home.

All birds need an adjustment time, time to get used to you, and the house and probably a new cage?..it is scary for them. It will take her a couple of days to get used to the home. Don't forget she came from a place where there were people and other pets or birds, so #1 is just let her get adjusted.
Continue to make sure she has fresh water every day, more than once a day too, and food if she needs it. Also offer her fruit or veggies in the morning, although she may not eat them when you see her, still give them to her. It is like a trial and error with a new bird as you do not know what she likes and does not like. Start a list now, so if you ever need to have someone care for her, you can give them a copy of the list and they know then how to care for her. Depending on her size, either just slice in half, or smaller pieces if necessary. Because she is getting adjusted, approach the cage slowly, and talk to her softly, call her by name and do what it is you approached the cage for.
I would not let her out of the cage right away until she gets to know everyone by seeing them and hearing them. Birds like to forge for foods, so put a small tray in the bottom of the cage with a little food on it, and because she is curious, she will go down and investigate it.
Hope that helps some, but it would have been a little easier to tell you what to expect if we knew the species.
Good luck, if you have any more questions please e-mail me.

What kind of bird? You know the expression "eats like a bird"? She is probably eating and you just don't notice. You could talk to the person/store you got her from. Maybe she is used to different food than you are giving her. You also may want to tempt her with fresh fruit but make sure if she doesn't eat it that you remove it from the cage so it does not get rotten.

ok ignore the first answer and the one where they say she might be pregnant. Birds don't get pregnant, they lay eggs! Anyways, the bird might be eating, you just don't notice it. Or it also my be stressed. Birds often don't do much when moved to a new place. They get stressed and scared. Just give it some time alone and try not to make loud noises or sudden moves. It will start eating I promise!

If this is a baby bird-just weaned, I would sprinkle some seed on the cage floor, and put in a couple tablespoons of dry quaker oats. I would also buy some millet spray and hang it up inside the cage.
Really, there needs to be more information, how old the bird is? What kind of bird is it?

We really need to know the kind of bird and the age. is it a parrot? are you hand feeding? or is it eating seed? if it's seed bird have a tendency to drop the hulls back into the dish giving the illusion they aren't eating. be careful of this because the bowl can be "full" with no food in it! If it's hand feeding bring it back were you got it ASAP and have them help you.

Good luck

She is probably adjusting to her new enviroment. Birds are easily stressed and some don't adjust right away. Give her a couple of days.
If she doesn't eat in a couple of days then get her to an Avian Vet. She may be egg-bound and be in need of medical attention.

I hope this helps.

With most animals, in a change of environment, they wont eat for a while. She'll be okay, she's probably just stressed right now. She'll get used to her environment soon.
