I work for Costco. The start off pay is $9.50 and increases in increments of every 800 hrs worked. To reach the top scale of $21.50 per hour you will have to have 5 years behind you. To receive benefits you have to be there a year and they are very good - generally covers up to 80%. You have to have worked a year to get holidays too. Overall they're very nice people to work for - very fair. With regards to loss prevention, there are in store security who typically catch thieves every day of the week - and every one of them is prosecuted. The annual shrinkage, on average stands at 2%, per store.

I live in Alaska. The people whom I have met are very happy working for Costco. The benefits are good (I don't know about the pay) and they are happy in their jobs.

When I shop there, they seem to be having fun and enjoying each other.

I worked in a doctor's office many years and for some reason we had many Costco employees as patients. There was never any trouble with time off for medical treatment with Costco.

I do not know about the loss prevention.

Very similar to Wal-Mart's 'Sam's Club'. It is a membership store, more like a bulk retailer. Caters to businesses, but is very good for large families or charity organizations. They are so big, they rely on automation and computer inventory control. Also, they specialize in items you won't find in regular retail stores.
