i am tempted to buy an HDready LCD tv from the states as for the same money you can get a much better tv (even including shipping), but unsure about the analogue tv signal as america is NTSC and uk is PAL (also we are not quite ready for HDTV)?

Actually..... maybe.
The TV must be able to accept 220/240 volts at 50 cycles or it will be seriously damaged when you plug it in. You can buy power converters from Maplins, etc that will allow 110 only items to work if it can't accept UK power.
TV standards are different in the USA and UK which are your biggest problem. Standard Definition is the hardest - many TVs can accept a NTSC or PAL signal when using a video source such as games console, set-top box or DVD player. However, you need to find out IF the TV can receive PAL and if not can your existing video equipment output NTSC. The build in tuner is anybody's guess.
HDTV is surprisingly much simpler - they are agreed international standards so should work. At the moment (I think) only Sky and Telewest have HD service so make sure whatever you buy has compatible connections.
You might find it's more trouble than it's worth though. Even if you get exactly what you need any problems are going to be painful to sort out even under warranty. Try www.richersounds.co.uk and see if you can get a good deal.

definitly not most electric items from US are no good over here
1 its NTSC wont work no way of fixing that
2 its diffenent voltage can be sorted though
3 the tuner might be different in US therefore rendering it use less
so i would say a big no no
anyway if you did get a hdready tv you would need qa hdready dvd player to get the quality and a hd sky box for that to get better quality it wont just work you know it aint really worth it plus blu-ray is out now that will up the quality on a lot of stuff save you money for when that hits the shops in europe its mega trust me

Unless the TV is multistandard ie PAL and NTSC and is dual voltage capable ie 110V and 220V then dont bring it to the UK.You uisually only discover the snags when you connect it up and by then it is just too much trouble to ship it back.

Yup it will work, but you gotta buy the adapter. I made the mistake and bout a dvd from the US and took it up to England. Had to get the adapter. Try Dixons. That's where I bought mine.

American Tv's work off a differnt refresh rate, (SECAM) whilst British Tv's work with (PAL)
You could get one and watch American videos on it though!!

they use 110v ac current so you would need to convert your electric supply,also the tv must be PAL compatible.
