My mum used to put 'vinegar' (the one you use for cooking) in my hair and wrapped it with a towel so the lice would get 'drunk' :) It really worked but you smell of vinegar for a little while, then remove with a comb. It's just a homemade recipe that works, though lice are stronger nowaday
Go to a drugstore and buy some good remedy

Sorry to hear of your problem. I suggest that you go to the drugstore and get a Robi Comb. It is a cool little battery operated device that detects and kills lice and their eggs without chemicals. You can use it as often as you like with no worry of side effects.
It is imperative that you remove all the Nits....lice eggs... from your hair as it only takes one louse to cause re-infestation. Everything in your house that has been touched by your head and or clothing has to be cleaned. Pillows, Hats, stuffed animals should be tied tightly in a garbage bag and stored away for 2 weeks. Clothes and Bed Linens should be washed in HOT water and dried in a HOT dryer for at least 20 minutes. Furniture and Carpets should be thoroughly vacuumed as well as your car upholstery. It is a lot of work but it will get rid of the pesky little critters. Also, make sure everyone in your home is checked closely for signs of lice (the bugs themselves or the eggs they leave behind) and treated if there are any signs of lice. Here is a link to info on the Robi Comb I mentioned above:

I hope this works for you.
God Bless!

Head lice build up a resistance to lotions used, which is why you should use a different lotion each time.

Hedrin has just come out and is actually quite a good lotion, I'm not sure if it contains any chemicals but it makes the hair really easy to comb through with a nit comb and comes with it's own metal nit comb.

I've had a awful year with my kids getting headlice this year, the only real solution is to comb it through with a nit comb every single night until you have eradicated all the lice and eggs.

Using olive oil, conditioner, baby oil or anything greasy will help stop the lice clinging onto the hair shafts, and make removal easier ... good luck.

The only thing that is effective is RID.

If you are having trouble getting rid of it than you probably should wash all your bedding, clean your furniture, wash pretty much everything. Carpet will also need tended to. Lice is very stubburn and at times can be very hard to get rid of.

You also need to pick them out thoroughly w/ that little comb you get w/ RID, if you are just putting it on the head it will not work, you have to get all the eggs off the hair, if you don't they will hatch and you will have lice all over again.

Good Luck,

this is easy, over the counter treatments are expensive and most times may not work. I am a father of two boys, who occasionally bring home head lice.

I make a shampoo with a 5 to 10% household salt content. you have to shop around as some gels go watery when mixed with salt. i use Dencorub mineral bath gel. apply to scalp, as you would a shampoo. as always avoid eyes. Ensure all hair is covered.

leave for about 10 - 20 minutes

If Burning is felt, it means you have used too much salt. rinse immediately & dilute mixture

rinse out, use nit comb to sift out bodies. some may still be alive but are dying !

how it works, lice are soft bodied critters, the salt simply sucks the moisture out of their bodies. you should use again in 5-6 days to get any that hatch out of eggs just to be sure.

I have not needed to reapply as all are dead, maybe the eggs are killed too, i dont know, but reapply if in doubt.

washing of bed linen and pillows is a waste of time, lice cannot survive withood food for very long, so the chances of re-infestation are next to nothing.

be aware that some over the counter treatments are actually dangerous.

The only side effect odf the salt based gel is possible drying out of the scalp, care should be taken with sensitive scalps.

whatever method you try, never put your child in danger, ie using flammable liquids, or noxious chemicals.

hope this has been helpful

First off, I think the people who are saying "eww" and "gross" need to grow up.

I work with kids and we are constantly doing checks for lice. My nieces had lice a few years ago, and it was very, very hard to get rid of. The thing is, if you live in a large house or wherever, you have to clean every single thing that the person with lice comes into contact with. It's time-consuming, but you also have to go through that person's hair daily. If that person still has lice, then you have to reclean everything again. Blankets, pillows, seat in the car, etc... because that person will never get rid of it, and just spread it to everybody else. Get a super-fine-tooth lice comb. They work wonders.

And for all of you "eww" and "gross" people... think about that the next time you lean in your seat at the movie theater.

Buy a fine teeth comb, that takes out most of them. After every use wash your comb or brush. this will prevent them from coming back...
In a bucket add 2tbsp baking soda, with luke warm water in it. after washing your hard rins with this twice a week....
