Time usually isn't the factor when trying to figure out if you want to be sexual with a guy; what is important is that you truly trust him and see each other being together. Is 4 months long enough? Hell, my girlfriend and I couldn't wait 2 months; however, we have been together for almost 2 years.
If you are still a virgin, then you really need to think about if this is the guy you really want to give it up to. Ask him what his feelings are, see if he is only in it for the physical aspects of the relationship. If he's in it for the long haul, then I say go for it when YOU are ready.

I agree with what Bad_Dog had to say. I think it also depends on your age though. Young people tend not to think about the consequences. If you're young, realize that you'll probably go through more boyfriends, and you might regret giving it to the first one you have. Also, be sure the guy won't dump you after he got what he wanted. If you're both older, then that shouldn't be an issue. Also, is it your first time? His first time? Take that into consideration as well. You only have one first.. make sure he's worthy.
