Is it okay to cook and eat hamburger meat with the date august 4 2006. how long can you keep hamburger meat before you have to throw it away?

If it was frozen you can keep it between 3-6 months in the refrigerator freezer and up to a year in the deep freeze.

If you just had it sitting in the fridge then you need to throw it away...meat is only good for a few days past the expiration date (if it is not frozen).

Good lord, that must be smelling up the whole house by now!!! Unless you froze it!! I sure hope it was the latter! I have kept it frozen for months, and it was fine, but I really prefer my meat fresh.

You can keep it frozen for almost a year. The date on yours might be the sell date. You should be ok

If it wasn't frozen, it's already rotten. If it was frozen, it should be ok. Frosen foods can last 6 months or more.

If it has been frozen up till now, I don't see a problem. But if its not, I wouldn't.
