If you haven't figured it out. The US is pretty much the world police. Not always the good cop, but most of the time. As far as our snouty french friends. I live right next to their compound here in Afghanistan. If we are so bad for being here.... Why are you guys here? The answer to your first question is: As many countries as it takes. Self proclaimed bad asses beware... The US is here and we got the little guys back. So, line up, take you butt kicking and get over it. As far as the second: When bigger countries stop picking on the little guy. Can't we just all get along so I can go home. I'm tired of Afghanistan.

Well Paul, my boy, it's probably a good time for you to start learning arabic, because if the US doesn't stand it's ground against these banjo-eyed riff raff nobody else will, either.
This threat is not about to go away, because you don't like the US aggressiveness. The US has a lot of enemies out there, but it has friends, too. The enemy list is a long list, but that doesn't make them right and the US wrong.
The last time around, the US had a passive president who really believed in international diplomacy. If you are at all familiar with the events that took place under his watch, you would know that his win, win approach to diplomacy only worked for the other guy. The other guys were scratching their heads wondering when this guy was going to react, and he never did.
So, I believe from that short history it's easy to see why the US must take an aggressive stance to any country that poses a threat to the US, Britain, Canada, Japan, Australia, Taiwan, S.Korea or any country that falls on our side of the margin.
If the libs believe they can gain control and improve international diplomacy, thus lessening the threat from our enemies, and the American voters allow this to happen, then the future of the US will be in grave danger of survival.

How amusing some of these posts are. Let get some facts straight before attempting an answer.
1) To date the Iraq war has cost just over 300 Billion - Not 1 trillion
2) Casualty Counts are low in Iraq by traditional war standards.
3) We rely heavily on technology in ability to fight wars, and the level of this technological ability increases constantly requiring less soldiers. We however are not structured to occupy countries militarily, and will always get into trouble if we try.
4) We are not indescriminately torturing people, or killing defenseless citizens. The largest number of casualties occuring in Iraq are due to insurgent activity, not military action.
We should all strive to avoid war whenever possible. However we cannot be afraid to standup for our national interests. To take this course shows us to be weak in the eyes of the world, and invites more conflict. Those who would sponsor and condone the actions of terrorists and despots must know that there are going to be consequences for their actions. No one can know what conflicts will arise in the future, but we must be prepared to undertake the challenge for the good of our nation. Contrary to a belief by some, the United States is not imperialistic. We do not desire to take over the world, and we are not trying to steal resources. Our actions whether they be judged right or wrong by history have always been aimed at fostering freedom in the world. If you want to stop war freedom is the only course. Through freedom people achieve great things, as people achieve and attain more in life they have more to live for. This reduces war in the end. If you doubt this then explain why most countries with democratically elected governments do not engage in war with each other?

a lot. what will stop the wars? running out of people to fight in these wars. peep this? we have 300 million people in the US. im guessing we have something like 1 millions people in the military maybe more im just guessing. ok that leaves 299 million more people. now i would say 2 thirds of those people are either elderly, handicapp, mentally challenged or under the age of 18. that leaves a third of the populate made up of mostly women, convicts, reach white men and united states representatives of the house and congress. whats going to stop us? we are going to run out of people.

we're pretty much out of money. Nearly $1T has been blown on this idealistic affair in Iraq. We've wasted our image in the world as well as our resources. It was a last ditch effort to bring the middle east around, and it didn't work.
Unless we elect another foolish leader who uses the fear of a terrorist attack to kill more uninvolved people, we should be channelling our resources a bit more close to home in the future. In the 21st century it will be China's job to be the world's policeman. They'll be the one with the money, human capital, and manufacturing capability to command.

It seems the dumbass president is hell bent on Iran and possibly Pakistan well the northern part where osama and the taliban call home. If he attacks Iran our economy will die in about 2 days after the iranian cruise and ballistic missiles blow away every refinery in the gulf. The stock market will tank in about 5 minutes after the iranian counter attack. so whatever iranian nukes might do in the future bush will do in the immediate future destroy the US TOOOO many retarded chiefs not enough sane indians.

I don't see how the US can have any more wars in the near future short of introducing conscription. Iraq has really exploded the myth about the US as a military superpower-they just don't have the manpower to compare with real superpowers of the past.

The Earth is a very small place. The opportunity to go AWARING with other countries should be depleted in a couple of decades. Then I guess you just get to start over again unless all the nonsense of conflagration sends us all back to the stone age.

It will only stop when either the countries that hate the US have defeated us, or we have defeated them.
