Depends where you are going to and flying from. Most of the restrictions have been lifted apart from bag size in Europe. However to the USA you still can't bring liquids or any gel like substances. The restrictions only seem to centre on flying out of the UK and into the states- return trips don't seem to be as fussy. You aren't allowed any electronic stuff on some flights and laptops etc are allowed on some as long as they get x-rayed at security. Best bet is to check with the airport rather than airline because it appears the airports have slightly different intrepretations of the rules- Belfast International and Belfast city both had slightly different rules.
Plus anything you buy after going through security can be taken on except if you are going to the USA.

The regulations are changing so frequently nowadays I think you would be sensible to check with your airline to make sure you have the most up-to-date information.
