Typically it should take about 3 -4 weeks for you to see a true result from your changes. The first 4lbs is usually a water loss and usually happens within the first 12 days of a diet change. Weigh yourself about every 3 days to avoid discouragement. Also you may need to make mild changes every month to fake your metablolism for awhile. The body has a natural self-preservation mode it will drop into if you lose weight too rapidly.

To lose weight, a person has to reduce the calorie intake by some amount by modifying their diet. A diet without sufficient nutrients will only increase the appetite of the person trying to lose weight. Since most people combine a diet with an exercise plan, additional nutrients are required for the growth of muscles required to increase the metabolic rate required for long term weight loss. If you have a lot to loose then you will see results fast, if you are only trying to get rid of 20 or less pounds then it could take up to 6 weeks before you see any real results. I have seen people lose 12lbs in a week but they also have 100+ pounds to lose.
