It depends on how you are interpreting/applying this doctrine.
If a person puts sin away from him/her self, and leaves it behind, and follows Christ instead, confesses the sin, then there is no sin so great that God can't forgive it.
But God will not be made the fool in the end. Don't suppose that by saying this, we've created an escape door for people to commit a murder and then "repent" and then molest and "repent" and so on and so forth forever. No, God knows what they're up to, and in the end, God's Justice will prevail just as much as God's Mercy.
1 Cor 6:9, 10 "Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not decieved: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.
And yet....
1 Cor 6:11 "And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God."
Now, also think of this: if a person believes has commited an unforgivable sin, what purpose is there in repenting? Surely he commited it because he wanted the results of that sin. And what purpose is there in him ever trying to do any good ever again? What can God give or take away more than that? God doesn't want anyone to go into eternal condemnation, yet God will not stand by while we violently break his laws. Those who keep walking away from God will walk right into Hell. That means those who continue in their molestations and murders will live in a situation worse than anything you've ever experienced, and it will never end.
That doesn't mean that those who commit a murder and then repent get off light either. Although I'm unclear how it will work (and frankly, it doens't matter: God has it figured out and that's all that matters) God will provide punishment to separate us from our earthly sins before we enter into heven.
1 Cor 3:12-15 "Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is. If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall recieve a reward. If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire."

You are missing the point. What would happen if you said you were sorry, but kept doing the same thing over and over again. It makes it pointless after a while. GOD isn't a fool. Sure God forgives through Jesus Christ, but don't think that he is letting any of us get away with anything. We will all be judged by GOD. We are not here to judge others. You should leave those sick people to GOD and not worry about if GOD forgives them or not. Worry about what sins you have committed and will continue to committ and if GOD will forgive you. GOD bless you.

See, you are thinking about this from a human point of view. I agree with you that it is strange that anyone could forgive a murder/rapist, but God is so much bigger than anything else, and I just can't even explain it . .

The world we live in is a world of duality in which two realms of existence coexist one superimposed upon the other. One belongs to the subtle Mind-Consciousness and the other to the Gross Material World called Physical World. Between the two it is Consciousness which is a common stratum and in the subtle realm it sensitizes the subtle Mind also known as a subtle instrument. All characteristics such as the potential to create, the capacity to possess and hold that which is created and basically initiate all actions both at subtle thought level as well as all movements and motions in the physical world are generated and programmed by mind.Restricting to our human mind -physical dynamics all scientific progress and achievements relate only to the mind characteristics ,namely, intellect and intelligence as applied to study of the rational physical world. Because the human mind and creative potentials are greatly restricted we can view the world only in particular angles and capabilities and act in a self gratifying irrational manner. Proceeding by a logical inductive thinking there must be a Universal Mind encompassing all minicule human minds and beyond, which has caused all Natural Creation including the human beings but maintains by strict laws all that is created in a rational manner uneffected by any self biassed distortions and allowing successive human generations to explore and enjoy the positive fruitful benefits. If human beings think and act irrationally it is their own making and has effect upon themselves and the environment they live in but not on the irrevocable universal laws of creation. The highest generalization with all positive virtues is symbolized by human mind as God to strive for a higher order of creation in a humble manner but not victimize God for his/her personal misgivings.

I think the idea is that God forgives anything, but the path to forgiveness is a lot longer and harder for "major" sins than "minor" sins.

people !!!
it most definelty stinks does it not ???
how could a orderdly universe and a God come up with the fact that some people will be murderers and molesters and hurt animals and children etc etc,'BUT hey thats okay cause all they have to do is accept jesus on their dying bed !!!
i do believe their is a higher spirit "being "but i also believe the soul does not perish ,,,but in order to become a companion with "God"one must learn through experience and many lifetimes ,so while a murderer may indeed think he got away with it so to speak [maybe his last breath is i believe ]in my school of thinking he is going to HAVE to come back and learn about the pain he inflicted ,only through trial and error can a soul become a companion to God ,only through a choice [free will}.
i feel to TRY and be good and to TRY and work through this hell on earth and treat others like you want to be treated is truly the only path to a spiritual afterlife .
re-incarnation of the soul into different physical bodies throughout different lifetimes ,,karmic cause and effect ...
i myself like to think that people who are so selfish and judgemental will in some life have to be put under the same scrunity as they dished out .to me this would be a fair and just system .......
i could go on and one but study for yourself and see what a difference this philosphy will make [if it is for you of course ]being accountable for your words ,deeds and thoughts is a difficult task but one that actually makes you a better person ,FEAR of some sort of HELL for eternity is simply nonsense [never made me want to be a better person ],hell truly is here on this earth of hard lessons and hard knocks .
anyway best to you

John 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
God doesn't just forgive anyone.. he forgives those who believe that Jesus Christ died for their sins.. and they give all their lives to God's will..

He died for OUR SINS! He does not forgive unless you ask for forgiveness and understand what comes with asking for forgiveness! You still need to pay the consequence but GOD FORGIVES! He died for us!

God is super powerful. and i'm sure he's got a super powerful, brain-scanning, super computer up there with him that he uses to scan the brains of the filthiest human beings. i've thought about the same thing too, but i don't think we need to worry about it. i'm sure He knows what He's doing.
