Three reasons 1. some people like burnt toast 2. It may be to heat bread which was frozen so took longer to toast 3. the toaster's elements may lose their strength over time and this might be the eventual setting that you would need

I think the toasters have settings that burns the toast to a horrible crisp because someone may eat it very burnt. ANd also its because certain people like to be able to burn their toast which ever way they desire.

That's a really good question. I think its just in case someone has bread from a liquid nitrogen freezer thats at -200°c or something, in which case it should just brown nicely. Otherwise, it could be for setting fire to people you don't like - set the temp. control to high when they're not looking and when they toast their toast(!).... house burns down after the bread catches fire.

Because some people like it that way...

Or maybe the toaster companies are in cahoots with the bakeries. Burn the bread, people buy more bread and the baker gets rich and shares the profit with the toaster maker!!!

Some people like burnt toast. Apparently burning toast fumes are carsinogenic though, so if you do, beware of law suits!
