The word was invented by squeezing the term "picture cell" into five letters. So, a pixel is a tiny little bit of a picture. A pixel is a little rectangular block of colour. On its own, it just looks like a coloured rectangle. Put a whole load of them together, each with their own colour, and it forms into a picture. Is all.

pixel is the way we measure how pure the image is , mega pixel is means 1 million points in the image , so when we say that the camera is 1 megapixel it means it makes an image with 1 million dotsin it , so in a simple way :the more pixels in the image the clearer the image is

pixel are nothing but the smallest element that costitutes any picture. the resolution or the contrast or any of the pictutres proprty can be changed by varying the number of pixels per square cm.
