Why can't they find the source of the E.Coli spinach?

Is it a cover up- so they can't be sued? What are they going to do with the spinach now? Are they going to freeze it? and then sell it to us later? If we can't shut them down?

I wouldn't be shocked to learn that someone in the meat industry tainted the spinach in order to get people to eat more meat. The meat industry will now probably assert: "If you can't get your iron from spinach, then you must eat beef!" (which is nonsense, but that's besides the point)

Because there are likely hundreds or thousands of growers of spinach, each one using a different way to get it to the processor, and then to the grocery store, and then to the consumer. The E. coli bacteria could have come in at any point along those thousands of paths.

Also, investigators will have to look at the individual details of each case, looking for some common information. Did the tainted spinach come from the same grocery store? Was it packaged at the same plant? Was it shipped by the same trucking company, or grown on the same farm? Did the farmers use the same fertilizer, or weed spray? There are too many things that have to be investigated before they can say "This was the cause, that is the person who was responsible". It doesn't happen overnight, or even in a week. It takes time.

A lot of investigation and research is going on at the moment. It has got to be done right.
