Under 16's get ortho free, BUT!!!!!!!!!!!! since the new fees came in in April some orthodontists have changed and are deciding to charge private wether its children or adults. If money is the issue then i think you should ring around, you don't have to stick with the one your dentist has refered you to. But you will need to let your dentist know if you decide to go with a different orthodontist as he/she will need to send a referal letter with your child's requirements. Hope this helps.

Yes you pay for orthodonic treatment. Dental insurance compnaies consider that to be a cosmetic treatment instead of a medical reason. Which brings us to the question why dentists tell people they NEED braces. My younger brother got his braces paid for by insurance because he was born with a cleft/pallate so they felt his braces were not cosmetic even though the end result was the same, straight teeth.
No you don't have to pay for the orthodontic treatment just realize that you won't get your child braces. Many dentists offer payment plans on braces so talk to them and see what can be done.

This child is your child why wouldn't you move heaven and earth to make sure your child has the best chance in life. I have two children who needed dental work and believe me they did not go without! I am my child's best advocate because I love them. I know you love your child too so of course you must pay for your child's treatment.

If you stay in the uk and your dentist has recommended the treatment then it will be free if the child is under 16 or under 19 but in fulltime education.

I'm assuming you are in the UK. If you take your child to a regular dentist then yes (good luck finding an NHS one!). But if you contact your community dentist then you shouldn't have to pay.

Not if it is recommended by your dentist and the child is in full time education (under 16). This applies to the UK, not sure about further afield.

It depends on where you live and what kind of dental insurance you have. I find it rather sad that it's still considered merely cosmetic, even though crooked teeth can lead to a lifetime of mouth pain and problems.

Of course. Do you think the orthodontist works for free??
If you have insurance, look up your plan details. Most good plans pay a proportion but you are responsible for the majority of the charges
