A cat has 9 lives. Not sure, but my cat should only have one left.

The most popular number of cat lives is 9. Some people believe that the number 9 is lucky because it is the trinity of trinity; 3x3=9.

Other cultures see no meaning in 9 whatsoever, and see 7 as a lucky number. Therefore, in those cultures, cats have 7 lives.

Both sayings stem from the fact that cats are apt to getting out of tight situations....so they seem lucky. What would kill one animal, a cat can get out of.

The saying is a cat has nine lives.... the saying is cause cats are curious and always getting into dangerous situations. Cats are also much more flexible than dogs. I can give you an example of using up a life, I stepped on my new kitten last weekend and looked down at my tiny 2 1/2 pound kitten and her legs were backwards, her head was turned upside down and she was screaming with blood coming from somewhere... I frantically ran to get my husband, I thought I killed my cat. He picked her up and said, Michelle I am going to take her out back and put her down. I cried so hard, no you just can't! He said make her a bed and let her dye comfortably. So I did.... I checked on her all night, she looked as if she was passing in peace, not able to walk, eat, use litter... just slept. The next morning, I opened the bathroom door, to my normal playful kitten, who was eating, using her litter and loving us to pieces! I write it off and God answering my prayers and Gracie using up one of her lives.

So now do you understand the term... have a great day... awesome question.

A cat has nine lives. People say this because cats have a tendancy to take large falls or large jumps and still land without injury. Lets say a dog jumps from a 10 foot tree branch. More than likely the dog will break a leg. A cat will land on its feet and not break anything.

The saying is nine lives. It is because they are lucky so many times. They only have one like everything else. They also say cats land on their feet but that is not always true. If they fall to far from the grounfd they will break their legs.
