EPISCOPAL church question?

Is it ok to call the leader of the Catholic church a "Father ?
Also, who in Catholic church helps those in need? Say who do the member of the church need to approach in the event of the financial hardship?
(this is for my research)

THANK YOU !!!

We use the title Father to signify that the role of the priest is to lead the children of God just as a father is to lead his family.

Any person/family within the church in need can contact the Rectory, which is what we call the priest's residence/office. Also, just mentioning your difficulties to other parishioners will "get the ball rolling". Outside of the parish, the diocese will have programs available to help those in need.

You have a point. I used to be a Roman Catholic and even did my best to fit in the Catholic world like learning how to be as devoted RC as possible like memorizing everything about the rosary, going to a wednesday, saturday and sunday missal. I even went to famous Catholic churches in our country and became a choir member for the church I loved so much. I would die defending it.

After some time, some things just made me ask about a lot of things until all the said devotions made no sense to me...

And the questions included your question. I asked myself why should priests be called fathers when in fact, it is stated in the Bible that there shall be no person to be called as the Father except me (God) because no one is greater. Even the rank, reverend or the MOst Reverend, Most Holy do not make sense to God as He claimed to be a Reverend only. How could someone be called the Most Reverend or Most Holy? (Matthew 23:9)...Shame on them. If they love God, they should not feel superior like this.

I am from a third world Country where 80 pecent of the population belongs to the Roman Cathoic Church. Institutions and businesses owned by the the church are even exempted from taxes and with institutions, tuition fees are really high that almost no ordinary person would enroll. Many schools here are run by the church and it does possess a lot of lots where future properties of some sorts will be built. These are all exempted of taxes. See how we make the Church even richer without giving something in return? There are many people here without some food to eat and they are the ones who remain loyal to the church without it giving much support.

There are many charities found in this country just like how they're found in some parts of the world but in our case here, they would ask donations from different organizations and would help the poor after they were able to get a certain amount. But I think that with all the money they have, they can do missions without the support of these organizations, right?

Is there an office of the roman Catholic Church where we can run to when it comes to financial support? There isn't any! Nothing but charities but you have to be lame, you have to be as pathetic as possible, and the church has to wait for donations.

I remember myself rushing to a priest's office near a church for some holy water because I thought it would cast away an evil spirit possessing my sister-in-law. A woman (not a nun but some kind of assistant) was smiling at me as I reached the door panting. She was smiling wholeheartedly when she asked me about what she could do. So I said, I just needed some holy water. When she heard that, I saw some grin on her face and rudely asked another assistant to give some for me. I guess she was too disappointed that I didn't go there for some donations. Then she continued counting the bills on her hands. I saw dollars and more dollars... A dollar has a great equivalent to our currency for your information. Who wouldn't be happy with it anyway? The woman? She didn't say a word when I left. I didn't know that people who would be visiting that office must be some sort of walking money.

And look at this: priests are not allowed to get married. It could be for the reason that a priest, being highly paid, must benefit a lot when retired. So with this, the family of the priest would be competing with the profits of the church. They are given cars while none of any poor families belonging to the Roman Catholic Church are given any shelter.

The church really has a lot ironies.. This is how I see it and this is the reality. And if you are a member of the church, I hope you won't get affected..

Thanks...

Catholics call the priest Father because he is the spiritual leader of the church. Just like our earthly father guides and teaches us, the priest teaches those in the faith. In no way does the Catholic Church confuse their earthly father or church father with the Heavenly Father.

Call the church office for financial need--they will be happy to help you. The Catholic church is there for those in need. After hurricane Katrina, Catholic churches everywhere set aside a particular Sunday collection to aid the victims. Our church set up a fundraiser in addition to the Sunday offering to aid the families. We adopted a church in Louisiana and a family who moved into our town (and no they were not Catholic--just children of God who needed our help). We are called to help each other in need--it's what Jesus wants. Do not be afraid to ask.

In the Catholic Church, the smallest element is the family. The family is sometimes called the domestic church. Many families come together to form a parish whose head is called "Father". If the priest is the senior of several priests in the parish, he is sometimes refered to as "Monsignor"

Each Catholic parish has an office of social ministry that takes care of those people in financial hardship. A person does not need to be a member of teh parish or even a Catholic to receive help. Anyone who says differently is showing their prejudice.

+ Father +

Yes, it is okay to call the pastor of a Catholic Church a "Father."

Some people say not because the Bible says, "call no man your father."

However in context, the Scripture reads, "... And greetings in the markets, and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi. But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ; and all ye are brethren. And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven."

This is call for humility for those in leadership roles. Not to be taken literally.

We are not to deny our male parent and cut the Commandment to honor our father and mother in half.

Some leaders in any church may fall into the same folly as the pharisees of Jesus' day.

+ Help +

Beside there being hundreds of Catholic charity organizations, anyone may go to the pastor of a parish and request assistance. Some parishes may even have special groups for this ministry.

With love in Christ.

Look up Catholic Charities in the phonebook. There should be a local listing where you are. (they are all over).

It is a wonderful charitible group that helps those in need - no need to be catholic. They helped me once when I was way down on my luck. Donate back to them when you get back on your feet.
