Granted, there is a difference between punishment and abuse but in this day and age should spanking be continued? Thanks

Yes I do believe in spanking my children. God tells us "spae the rod spoil the child" That is pretty clear to me we are too spank not beat up and to not do so goes against Him. It also fdoes not show our children that we do love them. Discipline is the biggest part of the love that we show for our children as lomng as it is done right. No bruising or even a red mark that lasts more than 24 hours. Did you know that if you are truly a christian and someone called CPS on youfor spanking your child they cannot get involved when you believe it is right and for religious reasons.

>Yup! It has worked for generations in this family and our neighborhood. My child gets less spankings than I did and my mother had 7 other siblings that granny had figured out the method of getting the true confession from the child that did wrong.

> my best friend only had one spanking in his 51 years of life...but then he was unusually bright and sensible. Most people are not...spanking is the last resort when it is time to discipline. You try all the reasoning and counting and time outs...when all that does not work and the child has repeated the same wrongful behavior it is time to jump start the brain with a little pain. >Pain is a warning signal to your brain that something is wrong here. Some people choose to ignore the pain until they have reach the "its broke now" stage.
>In spanking my child I am trying to prevent further damage of death or jail time etc. My child understands that I do not just dole out spanking what/when ever. It is an earned negative consequences as when my child does something well there are earned positive consequences.

you just answered the question yourself....you said and i quote

"but in this DAY AND AGE should spanking be continued?"

honey...do you live in a fantasy world or the REAL world..in this DAY AND AGE things have only gotten worse, you have men raping their 2 month old daughter, you have 6 years old killing other children, you have teenagers killing their parents, you have pedophiles and child molesters EVERYWHERE, parents are so negligent that teenagers can make BOMBS IN THE BASEMENT, blow up their schools and the parents dont even know until its too late...and I BET those kids NEVER GOT SPANKED either.. you have insanity ALL OVER THIS EARTH..there is no guarantee in this world that you will wake up tomorrow......

so tell me do you truly think that by not spanking children in this DAY AND AGE it will make this world better?..you would be doing a disservice to humanity....every child does not need a spanking ..but TIME OUT, AND STAND IN THE CORNERS DO NOT work for every child either..its actually a joke to most of these little children today..

Well I don't have kids of my own, but I think a 3 year old is able to understand not so perfectly but good enough and if they don't listen they they have to be spanked at a certain level, no abbussing or leaving bruses or marks thats bad really bad, and if its an older kid such as i don't know a 10 year old i think they understand way better, so they shouldn't be spanked just talk to them, but if they don't listen then use a lil force, NOT abussing, because if you don't stop the rebels now they will always be like that and disrespect you

Spanking is a Great way to discipline your children. Just don't beat the hell out of them. If they are smart mouthed give them an open handed back slap in the mouth and they will stop speaking that way. Just don't punch their teeth out. There is a difference between spanking and abuse of beating. If you don't know where to draw that line then maybe spanking isn't for you.

Yes, spanking should be used when necessary as long as the parent doesn't lose control. This modern nonsense of taking something away or putting a child on the 'naughty step' accounts for the way many children are these days with no respect for anyone.

Yes, I think spanking should be continued, I think it's a major problem with today's spoiled children in the first place. My parents spanked me and my husband's parents did the same. As long as you dont go overboard and beat the children, then you should be allowed. SPARE THE ROD, SPOIL THE CHILD!

on no account in anger 4 365 days olds may well be headstrong badasses that make you want to smack them, so once you experience like smacking them...do no longer. Take a jiffy to return to a call no count if or no longer what the newborn grew to become into doing grew to become into spank-worth. yet i'm a company believer in controlled corporal punishment. It saves money on Ritalin. do no longer yell at youngsters, my @$$. often times letting a newborn understand you're indignant with the aid of yelling at them is sufficient to get them to self-superb. Spanking is a final hotel.

I don't spank and my kids are angels (no that's not just my opinion - complete strangers come up and tell me how terrific my kids are). Conversely, all my friends/family that do spank - their kids are tyrants. Seriously, they systematically destory everything in their path, and leave a wake of carnage.

I use positive reinforcement, and I take away privileges or use time-outs. I will slap a wrist just once, sharply, if I catch someone doing unsafe (like playing with electrical cords or pulling food from the dog's mouth - and bless his heart he's so patient).

My gran whipped me, often, with a wooden spoon. I hope Satan is doing the same thing to her this very moment...

Yes. I think a quick spat on the rear is just fine. It hurts their pride and teaches them to be more obedient. Just like someone else said... The older ppl of today that were spanked as kids are good citizens and the adolescents of today are not. Good luck!
