Diazepam are very good. The old name for Diazepam is valium. It can take weeks before you feel the full effects of taking this tablet. Give it time and im sure they will help you in the long run

If you've been prescribed Diazepam, then you likely need it. Of course, you know it is addictive. And I am sure that you know about some non-chemical tehniques to relieve anxiety, like breathing in and out of a brown sandwich bag. It's OK to use Diazepam too. I take anywhere from 2.5 mg to 10 mg. Xanax is not better. Diazepam (Valium) has been on the market longest. Try not to exceed the dose you are prescribed because it is addictive, by which I mean that the same dose can become ineffective if used too frequenty, not that you necessarily want to feel high. If you have frequent (daily) anxiety attack, ask about being put on an anti-depressant that also is a good anti-anxiety medication, like Celexa and Lexapro. Those, you would have to take daily, not on and during an attack. There is a faster acting version of Diazepam, if you need it. It is Lorazepam (Ativan) for sudden strong attacks. I take 1 mg when I have severe palpitations and feel like I can't breathe. It starts acting within a half-hour. Of course, it helps if you also get a routine of doing anything fun and relaxing, that is non-competitive, and takes your mind off things. Try Yoga, dance, regular walks with friends. But don't feel bad about having to take medication when you need it. Staying anxious will compound itself.

Diazepam is evil. You will need more and more to achieve the same effect if you take it regularly. Also you can't just come off it cause it causes withdrawal symptoms of all kinds.
As for Xanax no idea. Gave up on the pills other than for recreational use more than 10 years ago. I feel a lot better for it. Maybe you should look at what causes your anxiety and take it from there. The drugs won't make it less, they are just good at disguising the symptoms of anxiety.
Try yoga or Tai Chi and discover your self. Much more satisfying in the long run.

Propranolol is a beta blocker that only stops physical anxiety if you have mental anguish along with the heart rate etc this will not help. To be perfectly honest medication will never work alone it needs to be in conjuncture with some form of talking therapy which gets to the root of the problem. Taking meds is like putting a sticking plaster over a splinter, you just mask what is under the surface.

Also with psychoactive medication the more you take, the more you need for it be effective, this can lead to a dependency especially with tranquilisers like diazepam...

You should really speak to specialist about this as all medication and amounts vary for different people. A medication that works for one person can kill another or make it worse.

as I'm sure you are fully aware diazepam is a very addictive drug. you say you feel a bit anxious all the time why don't you try putting how anxious you feel on a scale of 1-10 where 1 is relatively or not at all anxious and 10 is the most anxious you have felt either all day or ever before. and then decide where on the scale you feel you need to take it. I'm not sure if that is of any help to you but i hope it is.

Mainstream treatment for anxiety consists of the prescription of anxiolytic agents and/or referral to a cognitive-behavioral therapist. There are indications that a combination of the two can be more effective than either one alone.
The acute symptoms of anxiety are most often controlled with anxiolytic agents such as benzodiazepines. Diazepam (valium) was one of the first such drugs. Today there are a wide range of anti-anxiety agents that are based on benzodiazepines, although only two have been approved for panic attacks, Klonopin and Xanax. All benzodiazepines are physically addictive, and extended use should be carefully monitored by a physician, preferably a psychiatrist. It is very important that once placed on a regimen of regular benzodiazepine use, the user should not abruptly discontinue the medication.

Some of the SSRIs (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) have been used with varying degrees of success to treat patients with chronic anxiety, the best results seen with those who exhibit symptoms of clinical depression and non-specific anxiety or general anxiety disorder concurrently. Beta blockers are also sometimes used to treat the somatic symptoms associated with anxiety, especially the shakiness of "stage fright."

You have to start taking an SSRI with Diazepam. SSRI starts to work after 3 weeks. You can taper off Diazepam after 3 weeks.
SSRIs are:
Trade names in parentheses)
citalopram (Celexa, Cipramil, Emocal, Sepram)
escitalopram oxalate (Lexapro, Cipralex, Esertia)
fluoxetine (Prozac, Fontex, Seromex, Seronil, Sarafem, Fluctin (EUR))
fluvoxamine maleate (Luvox, Faverin)
paroxetine (Paxil, Seroxat, Aropax, Deroxat)
sertraline (Zoloft, Lustral, Serlain)
dapoxetine (no known trade name)

You can try Escitalopram 10mg + Diazepam 2mg in the morning.

Yes you can take xanax everyday. Only take it if you really need it though because the longer you take it the more likely you may need to keep raising the dose. I take Paxil everday and I take Ativan at least once a day which is like xanex but milder and less addicting. It has helped me tremendouslt with my anxiety, panic attacks and agoraphobia. i have been on both for a year. i started on the lowest dose of ativan which is 0.5mgs and I am still at that dose if I need it at home. It has been a year. I take 1 and 1/4 or 1 and 1/2 of those pills when going out though. I am careful to only take it when I feel I need it because I dont want to have to keep raising the dose. I never wanted to take meds in the first place but it was my last resort. My anxiety was ruining my life! Good luck.

I know how bad anxiety can ruin your life, but try to get to the bottom of it and don't be too hard on yourself. Stay in touch with your doctor and friends. I have an addictive personality, and would give my eye teeth to geta hold of some diazapam, but I know I would take it all the time if prescribed. Its no answer but can help in the short term. Have a holiday with no worries, then come back and start to work on your life = confide in a best friend. Good luck. You may need anti-depressants. They certainly helped me to enjoy life again, after so many problems, I though I was going nuts.

I too have anxiety issues. I was taking xanax on a regular basis. After awhile it made the anxiety a hundred times worse. I backed off and started taking them only when I really needed them. Also I do a lot of what they call self talk. I've also been in therapy. It works for me. Just having someone to talk to makes a difference. good luck!

If you are feeling "a bit anxious" all the time, your Dr. may be trying to get you to deal with part of your anxiety without drugs. Believe me when I say this is a good thing. I have been prescribed up to 4mg 4 times per day of clonazepam, and up to 4mg 4 times per day of xanax. Both drugs you become dependent on and it is not fun trying to back off to a normal dose. Xanax can be taken quite often, but I would avoid it if possible and try other treatments (meditation, deep breathing, etc.).
