Good question. A friend and I have talked about this before and it's really scary! How do you know??! You would just assume that your normal and there's nothing wrong because you wouldn't know your going mad. I think you would just have to rely on friends and family to tell you your behaviour is becoming odd. That, and the fact that people will start looking at you strangely!

Really important that you do this. Listen to the song Santana Ft Steven Tyler-Just Feel Better, if it makes you feel like crying tears of relief that someone has the words to explain that feeling you have inside, then you're not going mad, as you put it. But you need to sort yourself out before you do...

Somebody who is developing a true mental illness will not to know that they are going mad, they do not have the capacity.

Therefore if you think you are going mad you are probably not.

Assuming that this is a serious question....

If you think that you may have a mental health problem, the best thing is to go to your GP and explain how you are feeling. There are many many types of mental illness, ranging from mild depression to schizophrenia and psychosis.

The mental health charity Mind has an excellent website with lots of information on mental health issues. Click on the link below, then on 'information' then on 'factsheets' for more info.

I have often thought I was going mad. But, think about it, if you were really off your trolley, you would not know a thing about it!!
If you are getting panic attacks, consult your doc. Perhaps a dose of Prozac could put you back on line, I did and it really helped me. Talk to your friends, as they will be able to tell you and reassure you, and please remember you are not about to be chased by men in white coats. Have fun and good luck.
