Does this mean she's got a problem? She won't sleep at night AT ALL unless we drug her. She'll stay up all night long just screaming and crying.
She saw this "boy" when her light was on and there were no shadows or objects to make her imagine this thing from something.
She doesn't watch scary movies or shows, doesn't hear scary stories.
To her "boy" means male, doesn't matter the age, she just knows there's a difference between the sexes in appearance.
She said his eyes and mouth were scary, and she screamed for me to come to her and pointed at where it was. I waved my hand where she said it was then she said it went away and her face relaxed, though she didn't, and hasn't slept since.
I saw similar things while growing up and was never diagnosed with anything. But what could this be? What causes this? If it's schitzophrenia, what are other symptoms associated with this illness?

We don't "drug" her that often. Only after she's been up to about 1:00 or 2:00am crying and screaming. And it's either Tylenol with Codiene or Benadryl. Whichever one fits any current health issues she might be suffereing from.

I didn't automatically jump to the worst possibilities. Believe me, I think a lot before I even consider posting a question on here. I'm not panicked, I'm not stressed about it, just asking for ideas and suggestions. I mentioned the extreme in case someone sais she's mental, which I DO NOT believe by any means. I believe what she saw, I just don't know how to deal with it since I never learned how to deal with my own problem of seeing things like this.
Good ideas and suggestions, though, all of you. Thanks.

There might be a male adult who did something to her...you best get to the bottom of this asap...it don't sound like mental problems to me...but a traumatic event....she has not forgot the impact of it either...not trying to be paranoid..but I would really check this one out and put her in my room if i had to for a while..she will sleep better and you won't have to give her meds.

My daughter has said that she sees thing too. She might be afraid to be left alone and brings up the "boy" so you won't leave her alone. Or perhaps it was a dream that scared her. This usually goes away with age, but the worse thing you can do is drug her every night. That will just cause a dependency and not an cure. The best thing that you could do is stay with her in her room until she goes to sleep or let her sleep in your room until she goes to sleep and then put her in her own bed. The dark and to be alone is a scary place for someone so young. Try to understand this and don't automatically think that she is mentally ill. Hope this helps :)

The fact that you asked this question tells me that you panic way too easy. Don't ever let your daughter see fear in your eyes. Help her draw the boy, and then help her make him more 'pretty' Use your own lipstick etc. Give him a name. Because whether it was a spirit or an imaginary friend, or just a nightmare, it is up to you to show her that she is safe, not in danger. And if it's bad enough to 'drug' her, then perhaps it is you that isn't coping with what she saw and you are supporting her fears. It's not Schitzophrenia, and I suggest asking your mum if you really liked to play the patient in the game of 'Doctors and Nurses' as a child. The fact that you went straight for the worst possible medical answer, and medicines, worries me. You should definately see your gp, and if she doesn't settle down, take her to see a doctor too...

We had a similar situation with our daughter when she was smaller. She kept seeing a "Blue Lady" in her closet. She was an only child at the time and was about 1 1/2. Altthough...she was not afraid. I would try giving her a SPECIAL stuffed animal that will be her protector. Does she have a nightlite?? That helps my kids when they are frightened at night.

it could possibly be that she saw a ghost or spirit .. if there is a difference between the two. young chrildren are sensitive to things like that. they don't know any better then NOT to believe in ghosts. you need to have a priest or minister or someone of the church come bless your house. does your daughter talk? if so she can ask the name of the ghost or you could say something like " little boy, go to the light" because you see he doesn't know he's dead. but i would say that's what it is. and why would you drug her? let her sleep with you if she feels safe that way.

Kids often see things when they are young, sometimes they are friendly "imaginary friends" and sometimes they are scary.

Personally I wouldn't want to be drugging my daughter to go to sleep, I would take her to the doctors to get some advice.

If you believe in ghosts, it's said that children are more receptive in picking up spirits, and "if" this was the case it might be worth looking into the history of your house.

my daughter would have nightmares and then wake up screaming about the "monsters" in her bedroom. we gave her a spray bottle of water that was "monster potion" that would scare the monsters away. we also assigned one of her stuffed animals night watch duty that would scare away any monsters.

the other thing i was wondering about was if your daughter recently moved from a toddler bed into a regular bed. that transition time was difficult for my daughter and it took time for her to adjust to the bigger bed.

it doesnt sound to me like your daughter has any form of mental illness. it would be good to discuss your concerns with your pediatrician at the next well child check up

My brother did this at the same age. He told my mum that he saw a man and that he was sitting on his bed talking to him. My mother could not see this but there was a dip in the bed where my brother said this man was.

It is possible for children to see things that adults cant both visually and sencing when things arnt right.

I dont know what to tell you but they say that kids see things that we adults cannot. So instead of questioning your kid, I would look into it a little more.Like the house you're living in..its history..the works!I know I sound like I've watched too many scary movies but this stuff DOES happen.I have stories of my own, believe me!Never question your child. If she says she saw something, then she probably did.You gotta find out what "it"was.................
