Why did he say it, also why did everyone get so upset, it is all silly. He has apologised now so who cares?

You are a Muslim fanatic; anything someone says against Islam is wrong; now be a man and tell me just how the pope was wrong.
The Pope quoted from an ancient leader saying that Islam spread their faith by the sword..then Muslims started burning churches and killing people...now where is the peace???Idiot!!!!!

Ugh, this is getting old lol
Read the story, if you can find a clear version of what he said. He used a bad example, but his whole point was that Islam IS a peaceful religion but as far back as the 14th century, people have observed it as violent because of the terroristic attitudes of some of it's members.
He really did make a mistake in using that particular quote however. He should smack his writer lol.

Islam is not peaceful if it was people they wouldnt be going round beheading and blowing planes and trains up. The pope simply refered back to 14th century statements. I think Islam needs to realise they are a religion of murderous terroists

Well, Pope was wrong for sure.
But on the other hand, this false deed has created a lot of publicity about people wanting to know more about Islam and Prophet Mohd. (Peace Be Upon Him ). This would give them more understanding about the divine teachings in this noble religion.

I even have prevented answering any questions of this way, until i study a transcript of the Pope's speech, and that i could desire to declare evidently that purely some different human beings have. the reason I say this, is with the help of the fact the impact that I have been given of what replaced into stated from reading comments, replaced into very diverse from the impact i've got been given once I study the Pope's very own words. first, he quoted from the Qu'ran, saying 'there is not any compulsion in faith'; 2d, whilst he replaced into speaking relating to the passage and introducing the quote, he used the word 'a startling brusqueness...that astonishes', making it clean he replaced into uncomfortable with the tone of the passage, and could assume any modern reader to be additionally; and, thirdly, it replaced into purely a minor component to the speech. so far, I even have not seen or heard all people remark of something of the speech. the factor of the speech, which replaced into to a school, replaced into that faith and reason are better than properly matched, thay could desire to bypass at the same time. he replaced into exploring using reason in exploring faith, and inspiring his listeners to apply the two at the same time. it extremely is amazingly unhappy, that maximum, inspite of the incontrovertible fact that no longer all, look to prefer to apply this component to the speech as a political schedule, to attack Islam/Catholicism/Christianity/faith, or all the above. it is likewise unhappy how common it sort of feels to be to do this. i be attentive to it extremely isn't any longer answering the question, yet I felt it replaced into all correct. 'i don't be attentive to' is my answer to the question, yet i believe that it extremely is simply by fact communicate in islam is discouraged (regrettably, a incredibly modern phenomenom), and subsequently human beings have little or no leeway to precise evaluations. i desire this all helps.

The pope is the leader of the Roman Catholic Church. He is not going to defend Islam any more than Muslim Clerics are going to defend Catholicism.
They are all stepping over the boundries of good relations.
