I have two parakeets and I see that they have laid only one egg so far (till Sep 17th). I read in other parakeet breeding sites that they lay one egg each until have a clutch of 4 to 6 etc everyday. It is two days already since the first egg I haven't seen another egg till. After the first egg itself the mommy bird is spending a lot of time inside her nest. This is her first time egg laying as well!. She comes out of her nest only occasionally.

Is this normal behaviour for first time egg layers to just lay one egg and stop laying more eggs for a while?

Will she lay more eggs later?

Do they sit on the first egg itself generally?

This is quite normal for the first clutch to only have an egg or two. The chances of the egg(s) hatching are not high for the first clutch, because of infertility or abandonment by the mother. Even if they do hatch, there is a good chance that your pair may not know how to properly take care of the young.
The first clutch is a good learning experience for the parents who will usually go to the "normal" parakeet breeding.

You might want to check on the birds diet and buy some vitamins the price is usually $4 the parakeet may not have enough supplements to lay more than one egg she might lay more eggs but it will take longer than you think. the bird will spend most of the time sitting on the egg to keep it at a certain temperature.

With budgies they lay every other day.
They sit when the 2nd egg is laid.

One of my budgie Chalky she always lays one egg then a week later another egg is laid and so on.
And the babies are always in good health. Shes a good mum but weird.

But with parakeets I don't really know.
Just wait & see?

I'm not sure I can answer all those questions. We had several parakeets that hatched. Pretty cool! make sure she has plenty of food and make sure she has a cuttle bone( i think this helps form the egg shell). we also had a special piece of wood that she hollowed out for a nest. Good luck!!!
