Yes, it's considered tampering unless it's addressed "...Or Present Resident." Just scribble on the front of the envelope either "Return to Sender" or "Recipient Address Change." You don't have to track it, the Postal Service or company that sent it has to.

Don't know but I got so pissed off at things still comming 7 YEARS after I moved in I eventually started opening things to see what the hell it was. Seems my homes previous owner owed some people some money. At least I was able to tell these folk they were barking up the wrong bush and the mail stopped.
Popping it back in the mail with 'return to sender' and 'no longer at this address' did no good at all.

It's your address.
Open it return it to the sender telling them that person dont live at your address. If you know the address the people have moved to tell the sender.
Dont forward it it may be a scam ad they may be using your address so you get Inland revenue or Plod hassle.
I hand delivered a letter sent to me in error and got hit and knocked to the ground, so dont do that either.

The mail is the Queens mail and it's an offence to open any mail that belongs to somebody else even if you can't locate them. As long as you don't get caught then theres nothing stopping you.

Probably. I just write on it in big letters "Not at this address" and throw it back in the box. Hopefully the postal worker will get a hint when they keep having to take the stuff back.

yes its called interfering with the mail as all mail belongs to the crown until the person its addressed to recieves it however you are allowed to strike through the address and write on the envelope this person has moved on or if you prefare take it to the post office and ask them to do it for you i know its a real pain to get other peoples mail its a pitty people dont fill in the moved house redirect mail forms as this would help cut down misdirected mail

in the event that they did no longer re-direct their mail, there is not any way you are able to to forward the mail to them. stick to the advice you have already been given. superb to place in writing no longer at address and positioned back in submit container, some businesses provide up deliver mail if back to them, inspite of the incontrovertible fact that no longer all. it extremely isn't any longer your difficulty, so provide up attempting to me mr intense high quality guy, if their mail replaced into considerable, they could have re-directed it.

I have to be honest and say I open everything that comes to my House.
In these days of ID theft and fraud if someone is using my address to obtain credit or defraud someone (or me) then I want to know about it so that I can take action.
I don't care if it is the previous owner, It's my address now! The mailman knows this so can redirect the mail himself if he so chooses.

Yes it is - but who's ever going to find out? It's also illegal to throw them away. You're supposed to return them to the sender - like anyone bothers. We get porn catalogues delivered for the guy who used to live in our house. He's the late middle aged, middle class, "respectable", Daily Mail reading sort, who still occasionally visits our next door neighbour. We have a giggle at his expense and are considering passing them on to his wife sometime when she next visits the neighbours... "sorry, we opened it by accident..."
