My Mom passed away recently and I was going through the house looking for something relatively unemotional to do. I decided to clean out her "stand up" freezer......OMG I found some items that are probably 15+ years old in there...mostly normal stuff, though, nothing exotic like rattlesnakes but the oldest thing was a frozen Harris pumpkin pie and the expiration date was1984! My Mom, bless her heart, was a food pack-rat!

I know I'll take the prize for this question...I cleaned out my basement freezer yesterday ...( I clean it out every 6 months and defrost it...ugh!) But,,,,I have a bag of BRAN, that's been in there for about 15 years!!! I keep thinking I might use it...but I hate BRAN! I think about throwing it out...but I just put it back in!
Good thing you didn't ask what the "oldest" item in your cupboards? I have a story for that, too!!! :!)
I can identify with "Lavander!"....we're just freezer pack rats!.... a special breed of "savers!"

I'm always finding little containers of things I saved, leftovers, for 'another time'. little plastic containers with 1/2 a cup of home made spaghetti meat sauce. Leftover home made chicken broth, totally crystalized .I save chicken carcases from roasted chicken or the leg bones or the breast bones, in ziplock bags, along with raw veggie scraps: the end of the onion, carrot peelings, celery leaves, turnip top,etc and when the bag is full I make soup broth, So I have bits of chicken bones in my freezer. It's pretty amusing...
I cleaned it out recently when I bought a new fridge, but saved some blueberry sorbet that I made about 3 years ago. It took so many hand picked blueberries that I can't bear to throw it out. But I'm not sure I can bear to eat 3 year old food either!!

I win the contest for the most unusual item !
I have a 14 yr old gallon jar which contains a coiled up rattlesnake.
The snake bit a visitor in the yard and was captured live in the jar.
