If you've already left, not a lot - unless you fit one of the specific categories of jobs that we are currently short of. Had (or if you are still in the Uk) you can have your employer sponsor you for an extention - you can apply for a work permit for up to 4yrs (although unless you have a specialist trade its wise not to apply for more than 2yrs) - it will cost your employer around £170 but these are usually granted without too many problems. If your tourist visa is still valid, but your work permit part of it has expired, you can still try for the above but an employer would have to show they had interviewed UK candidates but were unable to find anyone suitable. (have just been through this with a N.Z. employee in case you're wondering!)

The only way would be to have a job that is always recruited, like being a Dr or Nurse. Or apply to train for such work but you would be expected to agree to a work contract of up to ten years at the end of your training and there is no way out of that, if you left it half way through you would be sued. You would also need the right entry qualifacations, You were lucky to get a work visa for as long as you did, I wouldn't bother if I were you mate, it is likely to cost you a lot of money, hardwork and heartache.
Get the girl to come home if you love each other so much mate!

Not a lot. A vistor's visa is the only way to go. Don't get caught breaking the terms of that visa (ie working) cos if you do the department of immigration will deport you and you won't be allowed back.

This makes me angry. Decent South Africans and Australians have a limited time here yet certain other types - mainly those who would like to blow us all up - seem to be allowed to remain as long as they wish. There is something terribly wrong with the system.

shave off your moustache and reapply, they'll never notice you'll look like a totally different man
on another note; I think you've got more serious worries, if your girlfriend is planning on staying when she knows you can't she's clearly giving you a (not so) subtle hint

you will have to return to S. Africa and take her with you!
If she wanted to be with you as much as you want to be with her then ask her to go with you!

Marry her like every other immigrant. If you haven't been granted a visa you may be able to seek employment and ask your employer to sort it out. It is easier for them to get you one even if you have been refused

you have had 2 years now do us all a favour and stay out of the countyr unless it is for a holiday. Its people like you who cause immigration in our country. I think its time prison sentences for 150 years are introduced for immigrants
