It's bad news everyday. Of course the war supporters say it's going great. ( I heard that during Vietnam)

How come the USA military is messing up in Iraq?

Generally speaking, the U.S. military on the ground in Iraq (and in the air and on the sea in the nearby Gulf) is doing a decent job given the circumstances. The "mess ups" come in different shapes and sizes; Prisoner mistreatment and criminal misconduct like the rape and the killing of civilians by U.S. troops rests on the shoulders of the individuals doing the wrongs. But other problems, like the poor morale of U.S. troops and the escalation of sectarian violence in the country are a result of other, broader problems. Here's the short list:

1) The U.S. military doesn't have enough people to do the job. Properly occupying a country as large as Iraq would be hard to do without the daily violence between the Sunnis and the Shiites. It's very difficult fighting a war against insurgents on top of a civil war between them. Occupation can't be accomplished with aircraft and bombs-- it needs people on the ground. A lot of people. The U.S. military commanders in Iraq haven't been provided enough of the appropriate resources to do the job right.
2) The U.S. military leadership-- especially the civilian leadership of Donald Rumsfeld-- hasn't set good priorities or properly framed the mission goals of the troops. Allowing the Iraqi military to disintegrate was one of the biggest mistakes. There have been several others.
3) The Bush Administration's doctrine of preemptive war against a large, sovereign nation (without adequate justification) robs the U.S. of the moral high-ground and erodes the effectiveness of the mission.

When you get right down to it, the U.S. military shouldn't have been sent to occupy Iraq while significant military operations were still being conducted in Afghanistan-- if at all. Now that they are pretty much stuck there for a while, we need to focus the blame for the situation on President George W. Bush and Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld and vote ourselves some new leadership at the first chance we get-- and every chance after that. In the meantime, we should be supportive of the men and women fighting for us-- even if we aren't supportive of the overall mission they've been ordered to conduct.

Can i put it more simply. American human rights are different to Iraqs Human Rights. So just leave them be. Do you see the Iraq thanking you in the millions for comeing to their aid and helping them out? All i see is alot of bullets comeing, and unfortunately my country is stuck next to you.

Back on Track.
The US military is doing as good as it can, a country is only conquered when the mind is conquered, wow, the US has the biggest military, but until you conquer the minds of the Iraqis, you wont have a happy day.

Until the Iraqi government is happy with the US being there, and the general iraqi populace supports the governement(which apparently 3/4 of them dont anymore), it wont be getting any better.

A year ago we were losing a score of soldiers a week (often times more), today we lose maybe a half dozen coalition forces a week. Why? Because the insurgency learned the hard way that confronting us directly was killing off more of them than us. Since then they have changed their strategy from such direct confrontations to fomenting civil war. Today it is mostly Iraqis that are dying, 20, 30 sometimes 50 a day. It is the insurgencies hope that the constant bloodshed and medias coverage of it will force us out where direct attacks against us couldn't.
It will not work. The Iraqi security forces are improving daily and will eventually be able to handle the terrorists on their own, especially since there is going to be a lot less of them. The American military is not messing up. Considering how few boots there are on the ground, they are doing a fantastic job. Dumb pricks like you (who incidentally cost us victory in Vietnam) will never admit that because you hate America and wish her to lose this war. You would like to see it become another Vietnam. It will not happen. America has learned her lesson and will never again take anti-war movements seriously.

I really don't think that they are messing up on purpose. They are fighting a force that knows the country inside and out and we do not. They don't really know who the enemy is like in Vietnam. Also another thing to consider is that most of the troops that are serving in Iraq are reservists. Under the circumstances I think they are doing the best the can.

i might help the conflict in Iraq because of the fact i've got self belief in democracy, in spite of if that's been so badly dealt with. the quantity of squaddies are far too low permitting entire areas to be controlled with the aid of insurgents. yet another concern is that the united statesput the worst human beings in means, lots of the government officers are former protection rigidity vendors, and unexperience leaders. This alongside with the united statesnot effectively reducing off the border around Iraq has allowed terrorism to grow to be rampid in Iraq.

messing up how? by the way we arent at war with Iraq anymore, there was a cease fire. Of course it bad news everyday. We invaded another country and we are trying to infringe on their beliefs and rights. Its a show of disrespect and American bravado. Americans soldiers are being killed everyday because they are resisting. Those Iraqi fighters arent insurgents. They are patriots. They are fighting to get rid of the invaders from the west.(US) we arent messing up. our president is messing up because we should have never been over there.

I didn't know they were.Of course I do my own research and think for myself. It takes a little time and reasoning on my part, but well worth it in the long run.I don't get my thoughts muddled by political rhetoric and, having served in the military myself,I know the difference between truth and perception of truth. To the uneducated, the perception of truth automatically becomes the truth, kinda like the blind leading the blind and hoping they don't all walk off a cliff.

"With all that is said in this passage, I ask a simple question. A "women's rights group"??? In Iraq??? How can this simple little phrase go undetected to even the most casual of readers??? Last I checked, under Saddam women had no rights and were routinely and repeatedly abused. How can progress such as this go undetected, even among our Mainstream Media friends? Is anyone out there aware of the fact that there are women in ministry positions in the new Iraq government?"

Anyway, this is just one of the things that our mainstream media fails to report, so to women everywhere that are free you should stand up and rejoice for your sisters in Iraq, they now have some of the freedoms that we have always taken for granted.

Thank you to the men and women of the armed forces that fight so that all women, children and men shall share the same basic human rights that Americans take for granted. Proud and thankful to be an American.

the press does like to report the negative because they (for the most part) are anti Bush. They want to make him look bad because it sells papers.
I am sure there are some great things going on too but who wants to read good news about a war?
the one thing that always confuses me is that we keep sending reservists and the regular army is trained better. Most of the army guys I worked with would be pissed to be missing out on the action.
