It isn't a big deal for you to want to do it. It does involve a good amount of work. Your pup should be between 10-12 weeks when you have the procedure done. After cropping you give the ears a little while to heal, until the stitches come out. Once the stitches are out you then start posting them so they will stand. It can take a long time depending on your boxer's ears. If you decide to do it, pick up some dog multi-vitamins (Pet Tabs is a good brand). They give your dog the vitamins and minerals it will need for the ears to heal and stand faster. You post every week, all week long. Once they have been posted for a few weeks you can take them down and see how they stand. As soon as they start to fall you have to post them back up again. You never want to let them fall and stay down because then they either won't stand or it will take a lot longer to get them up.

It's your dog and you have the right to crop it's ears if you want to. Just make sure you know what is involved, and have the time and money to do it, because it isn't cheap. I would rather see an uncropped dog than a cropped dog whose ears don't stand.

It used to be the breed atandard, now it's optional. It is an elective surgery. Do some research on the vets in your area who do ear cropping (not all vets do). Ask for pictures and references. A good vet will give them to you. Also request the pre-surgery bloodwork. I did and found out my puppy was anemic (that could affect the healing time), so delayed the surgery for two weeks. After a course of vitamins, his hematocrit level was fine.

I had my boxer's ears cropped at 14 weeks. The stitches came out after 10 days, and the braces came off about two weeks later. The hardest part is keeping your puppy from scratching at them or shaking the braces off. After the surgery, I would bring him to the vets office each day when I had to go to work. That way, there was someone watching him at all times to make sure he left them alone. He's now over 5 months old and the ears look great!! I personally prefer the cropped ear look on boxers rather than "natural/floppy" ears.

It is your decision, just be prepared for the extra attention your puppy will need following the procedure.

That's your decision but if you do, please do some research as to which vet you will use. Ask to see some photos of his work. I have seen some horrible crop jobs that literally took off most of the ears or some that are uneven and look terrible.

It's cruel..so I guess it must also be stupid. People do it if they want to show their dogs, as it is a requirement for certain breeds, this also includes docking(cutting off) the tail. I have a Bouvier who is all natural, if I wanted to show him at an AKC sponsored event he would need his ears cropped, his tail docked and groomed a certain way. He's my pet and I love him just the way he came.

It's personal preference so don't listen to anyone on here. It also happens to be the tradition but most people seem to have abandoned those to.

My sister's boxer was a rescue so her's are not done but I just had my Dane puppy's done a few weeks ago. Your choice... not anyone elses!

It is a elected operation. Although the breed looks far better cropped!

I don't think you should , it makes the dog look mean.I think Boxers are much more beautiful with their ears in 1 piece.

Yeah its stupid everyone likes to play with doggie ears. If you cut them off he won't be able to be cute anymore.

Plus its the most painful of cosmetic surgeries.
