How i can find my way to reception where my friend will be waiting? It's my first trip to the USA i'm coming from Dublin and i'm panicking because it seems to be huge! How do i find my way to reception? Is it sign posted? Do i have to go through many levels? I'd be grateful for any help/advice you can give me!

JFK is a huge airport, and the main problem would probably be the fact there are about 8 terminals in the airport, all of which double as arrival and departure terminals at the same time.
I would recommend you communicated with your friend, and explained to them you would rather they greeted you at the arrival hall of your flight. Give them your flight number and your estimated time of arrival, and then could then check with either the airport or the airline which terminal you will be arriving to on the day you are due to arrive.
On a general note – the vast majority of JFK is very well sign-posted, and you could always ask the help of one of the many officers around. If you know which terminal you’ll be landing in, look for a specific map of the terminal here:

And for your reference, this is a terminal map of JFK:

Safe travels!

You are right JFK has become a behemouth but what your friend needs to know is what terminal you are coming into and your ticket should tell you the terminal and arrival time, if you are using an electronic ticket just go to the website where you bought your ticket and you can get that information there. Then tell them to go to that terminal ( terminals have their own parking lots now) and the reception/information desk will be right there inside the door, the ramp you come down from your flight will take you with into the main section of the terminal where you friend will be. When your friend gets there he/she will find a large board naming all incoming flights and what time they will arrive and then will announce also when the plane has arrived (you can also get this information at the desk but you will probably have to wait in a line.
A word of caution though tell your friend not to panic because with the new security regulations it will probably take you awhile to get through security. And also how long it will take you to get luggage off the carrousel so pack light. Its the world we live in.
When your friend enters JFK's main gate just follow the signs to the terminal you want. It really isn't that hard or if your friend is taking a bus they stop at their designated terminal.

JFK is huge but I wouldn't panic it is very well sign posted and there are about as many staff for the amount of people not at all like Dublin airport. Just let your friend know what airline your using and the flight number and they will find you, just you head for the baggage reclaim area and then for the exit they should be there waiting.

Everyone'll be going the same way. I travelled back and forth from JFK a number of times when I did my gap year as an au pair near new york, I managed it fine and I'd never travelled by plane before so don't worry! The worst thing to find there is the toilets, it was a nightmare every single time I had to go!

Admit it, you know the answer to this, you're just showing off because you're going to New York. I'm right aren't I!
Will you be having a pint of Guinness in Dublin airport's Green Room before you fly? I did last time I was over there.

explain your situation to the air hostess on your flight. She can and will direct you to the reception area, or to someone who will be able to help you. Dont worry too much as you are coming from a country where you speak and write english, to an airport that has its signs and customer service people trained in english. Its not that scary at all.

As long as your friend knows what termainal your flying into you'll have nothing to worry about. The signs at JFK are very good, just follow them.
