My 20 year old brother and his 19 year old wife, both are field medics in the US Army.
About 3 months ago, my brother called me and told me the they both had run away. Gone AWL. I asked him why and he told me because he was being sent to Iraq and didn't want to go and leave his wife behind.
I asked him where he was at, he wouldn't tell me...but I had a feeling he was in Colorado...where I currently live and where his wifes' family also lives. He gave the response saying he didn't want me to get involved or introuble.
About seven weeks ago, was the last time I heard from him. He said that they were going back to base in Texas. I told him to keep in touch and he agreed he would. Well, I haven't heard from either of them since...
I'm really worried. I was telling my mum that I wanted to either get intouch with the Red Cross or the authorities to file a missing persons, but she said not to.
What should I do? Should I wait it out?

I can see why you're worried, going AWL is a huge offense in the army. Unfortunately, I don't think you should contact anyone, you could be putting the rest of your family under a microscope. When he's ready or able he will contact you, the best you could do for them now is to pray for their safety. On a less sympathetic note, when he enlisted in the army, he knew that this day would come, he has a responsibility to the people who trained him. Why go through BT if he wasn't prepared to do what was necessary for his country

Poor you - you must be worried sick, I dont know about the rules and procedures in the army, but all I could advise is for you to maybe wait a little bit longer - you might get him into trougle otherwise - I know it'll be hard for you to just wait around doing nothing - but I think your brother will appreciate your patience.
Good luck

If you talk to him again, try to convince him to turn himself in. Every day he us gone is going to make it that much more worse on him in the long run. How does he feel about military prison time for a long while ?
He made a commitment and he needs to fulfill his obligation. He has a contract and he will serve his time and if he stays a.w.o.l. he will serve so much more.
This is really a wrong decision on his part - but have no fear, the government will find him in a short time.

I think you are better off waiting rather than drawing attention to the situation. Let him find his feet alone and he will be in touch as soon as he feels safe etc. I know that must be really hard for you to do but give him time. I hope it all works out for you..

That is a real worry.
Try to make discrete enquiries.
By the way, since when do English ladies wear knickers?
Not the one's that I know!

contact the base in texas and let them know he and wife have gone missing and cannot be found
army already knows he is awol and you cannot get him into anymore trouble than he is already in
if they went back to base they may be in jail for going awol.

if he returned to the base, he is probably due to go on trial for desertion during war time... something like that, i seem to remember, holds a penalty of 20 years in jail...
contact the base or the pentagon...

to be divine you should hold your heart in your chest and pray that god takes care of them both. but i have never met anyone divine before, so you need to do what your heart tells you to do.
Good Luck.
