My 20 year old brother and his 19 year old wife, both are field medics in the US Army.

About 3 months ago, my brother called me and told me the they both had run away. Gone AWL. I asked him why and he told me because he was being sent to Iraq and didn't want to go and leave his wife behind.

I asked him where he was at, he wouldn't tell me...but I had a feeling he was in Colorado...where I currently live and where his wifes' family also lives. He gave the response saying he didn't want me to get involved or introuble.

About seven weeks ago, was the last time I heard from him. He said that they were going back to base in Texas. I told him to keep in touch and he agreed he would. Well, I haven't heard from either of them since...

I'm really worried. I was telling my mum that I wanted to either get intouch with the Red Cross or the authorities to file a missing persons, but she said not to.

What should I do? Should I wait it out?

If he went back to a Texas base (probably either Ft Hood or Ft Bliss) he is in the stockade and will be court marshaled for desertion. The Army already knows that he is missing and they already know about you and the rest of your family, so it will do him no harm if you contact the Red Cross to check with the military on his location. (I am a US Army Viet Nam Era Veteran).

I saw last night where this woman went awl and she ended up doing some jail time (one night but she was being sexually harrassed) and went back to work in the army. I'm not sure what you will do but keep in mind. The police are already looking for him. The army will find him and you will hear from him soon. they will not kill one of their own and if you file a missing persons report you go against your brothers wishes of getting involved. The police know the salvation army probably wont help. In this situation let uncle sam deal with one of "his kids" because theyare aware he's gone. Next time tell him to pee the bed some. (Mental unstabablility) heard that works.

Why did they Join the Military? Didn't they have a clue that they more than likely would Deploy? My DH or anyone else for that matter DON'T want to Deploy...but it is their JOB. If your family didn't want to Deploy, then they shouldn't have raised their hands or signed on the dotted line!
I have no sympathy for them and I hope they get Military Action against them....
