You'd have to do some research into Bipolar Disorder and creativity. I'm sure they've been done, but getting the opinions of other people won't help you with this project, you need sources that you can cite. The only thing to keep in mind is that the effect on creativity could be negative or postitive. It could decrease it or increase it, or both alternately. I suspect that during periods of mania, it would increase, and decrease during bouts of depression, but that's pure speculation on my part.

I have BPD, and my mum says that when Im in a Manic stage, I tend to invent new things.. tho some are more "insane" then others.. About a year ago, I made a waterslide out of a tarp and some rope that I attached to the roof of my Da's 2 story house, and the other way tied to the side of his pool, and needless to say, it hurt... another incident was when I was 16, I created a new way to fly.. I decided that I could build a strap on wing system and jump off a cliff.. It worked.. fer like 5 seconds, untill gravity caught up with me and I fell 150 yards into the Colorado River.. I think a way to explain this is that I feel as tho I am invincible when I am manic, like I can do ne thing without consequence.. that was before I was put on medication.. when I am depressed, I go through inventive stages as well.. tho I will save ye the details, but I came up with some creative ways to attempt suicide or hurt myself... I am over that now, but I think it is the mentality at the time of extremes that create thoughts of creativity...

I think that this condition does increase creativity, or at least I've heard many creative people who happen this condition. I think it has to do with extreme differences in mood, so you can actually creates some artwork that shows angst during depression, and the extreme energy and lack of inhibition during the mania phase.
I would look at studies that have been done, read about famous people who have the illness.
If you want current case studies for your project, you could try looking at blogs, or joining some art or other creative newsgroup.

One person (me) could sit up in the middle of the night for hours with a pen and paper coming up with all kinds of crazy (to others) plans for a business, but get frustrated when she couldn't write fast enough to keep up with her thoughts, nearly pulling her hair out trying to remember what she had just thought of.
I'm not sure if that is the type of an example you are looking for, or if it is thorough enough.

Another website that's good to go where I found a lot of materials for you is under the intelligence quotient. Here, the intelligence is measured against the size of the brain. Again , Einstein, Newton, Mozart are mentioned. Mozart as you know is famous for his creativity in music. . You could go that route. Under yahoo search I just typed bipolar and creativity and a lot of sites, links too many to mention, came up definitely linking creativity to bipolar. Studies made by Stanford Sch-of Med on Jan.28,1998 suggested a link educ/groupbipolar/creativity.Bipolar disorder and creativity The details about the study is avail, if you need factual evidence to support your theorem. Even under Wikipedia, there is a link between mental illness and creativity under org.creativity_and bipolar _ disorder. There is a section on how creativity relates to Bipolar disorder. It won't allow me to copy and paste. You will be bombarded with a lot of reading materials on bipolar- about.com .etc. I hope this helps you quite a bit.
