The Bible teaches that the Jews are God's chosen people. There is a close, loving relationship with Israel unlike any relationship He has with other groups. Much like a "favorite" child. Though a parent would never choose one child over another, there are always special relationships between some children and their parents that cannot really be explained in any way other than to say, sometimes there's just a special connection.
However, the Bible also teaches that once Christ died and rose from the grave, providing God's sacrifice for the sin of the world, that not only the Jews, but anyone can accept His gift of salvation. The Bible says that once a person has accepted this gift, they are "no longer Greek, Jew or Gentile, but one in Christ". Also that we are then, not merely servants, but children of God and "heirs with Christ". In other words, Christians (true Christians, not the many people in our culture who we see representing Christianity who call themselves Christains but have no understanding of Who Christ really is or have any desire to follow in the kind of lifestyle He did.) in the eyes of God, the Father, have the same status as Jesus Himself.
In addition, in the book of Revelation, John is taken into another realm by an angel. He bows down to the angel in reverence, but the angel tells him to get up. He tells John that he is only a servant of God, just like him. So, the way I see it, if we are not to bow to angels because they are only fellow creations of God, then He also wouldn't be pleased with us bowing to humans, even the chosen ones.

As a christian myself, I am not bowing down to no one except Christ Jesus and God the Father. An attitude of love should be portrayed, and in the same token I believe that we should not lay down and let people walk all over us either. Respect should be given to anyone that has a different belief system and as your concern grows for others that you feel are not saved; minister, pray and just flow with the punches that come to you. In the Bible after you have said and have done all you can do...brush the dust off of your feet, pray and move on (which is what Jesus told the disciples in the New Testament). Getting to the point....either a christian or an atheist is wrong and we all make the decision within our own level of faith. I challenge anyone to say a prayer openly that if Jesus Christ is real and God is real to pray for Him to reveal that knowledge to anyone that wonders and be open about the possibilities.

No man should have to bow down to another. Only God and His Son are the ones I will ever do that for in my lifetime. As a sign of worship; it is a show of humility and obedience. In man's culture, bowing to someone is just a show of respect for another. Whenever we start worshipping any man, we tend to get into an awful lot of trouble. Example: Jim Jones or David Koresch.

No, but they should realize they are in the flesh and blood presence of the people God chose to work through to set his plan on course. They should be reminded of Christianity's own Jewish origins and the Jewishness of Jesus and the apostles. They should also be reminded of the biblical warning, "Those who bless you Israel will be blessed and those who curse you will be cursed." And lastly, they should be reminded of a warning of the last days, "And the time of the gentiles shall end" (to be welcomed into the Kingdom).

Everyone bows down when they meet someone they respect, if it is their custom to do so. There is nothing Christian about that.
