Why are people so uncomfortable with family nudity?

I'm a single mom of a 12 yr old daughter and we both have seen each other naked. In fact we have a one bedroom apartment so we often have to change in the same room or for example ill be in the shower and she'll be brushing her teeth. Honestly I don't see anything wrong with it. My mom and I have even see each other naked.

Shes in her late 50's and Im in my 30s and its really no big deal. We often go to the pool together and when we change in the locker room we see each other naked. We don't turn our faces around or anything, but we don't mind even though we can literally see everything.

So why do people especially in the US think its so wierd?

Its no big deal as long as theres no sexual stuff going on. My sister has seen me before when she caught me skinny dipping when we were teens. And ive seen her once many years ago when we were both at a drunken party and she pulled her top off. We dont parade around nude in front of each other but neither one of us will freak at seeing the other less than fully dressed. My 18 year old stepdaughter has walked in on her brother (14) and myself in the bathroom because she doesnt believe in knocking and while it was a little unnerving none of us are scarred for life over it.

because your body is your own private business, I mean maybe you were lucky and your mom and you had a good mohther daughter relationship, but well there are alot of sick people out their, parents and children. And please don't shun me because of what I'm about to say, but it's the God's honest truth that nobody wants to admit to. You have to remember that if a father sees her daughter naked I mean he's a guy non the less, there are so many family rape cases it's not funny. And well parents sexual abuse their children, because of mental illiness or whatever other reason they convince themselves to justify what they are doing. So well in this f*cked up society I mean you can have children that fall in love with their parent on a much deep level then family love, and that causes them to do really weird stuff. And last of all children can be harassed or sexuall assaulted by their own siblings.

So honestly it's great that you and your mother never had any problems and you and your daughter feel comfortable around each other, but well children are now taught in school through their years of schooling, to first stay away from strangers, and as they get older learn to be aware of your surroundings and the people in it, and to never ever let anybody not even your parents or sibs force you to let them touch you in any way you don't feel comfortable. So to avoid all that horrible tempation they might have, it's safer to not expose their body, which causes lust.

And last of all on a more simple level, remember we are taught that our body is sacred to us. I mean at some point in your life, your mother stop taking showers with you, she stopped giving you baths, stopped helping you go shopping. So well as kids get older they tend to distant themselves from their parents, and from the people they were really once close to, and learn how to take care of their body and protect it. It's all human nature and psychology that causes people to feel weird with being naked in front of family members, it's like a secret that shouldn't be revealed at all.

same sex i dont have a problem with - but i do think in this day and age with all the hoohaaa and accusations out there about sex offenders i dont think its appropriate for a 12 year old son to be naked with and around a mother or teenage sister or vica versa with a father older brother and a younger sister/daughter.
and i think i can safely say every person or family i know of would not be comfortable with that anyways.

it isn't just a US thing... it is the same all over...

personally, i have no problems with nudity... in fact i surf the net naked... :D except at work... hahaha

but whenever people find this out about me, there is usually some sort of strange reaction... and there are some people on here that know i tell the truth about it...

i'm naked most of the time at home, and it just doesn't bother me...

i think of there's a various in kinfolk nudity and what you're describing. we don't walk around our abode bare, yet we do replace in front of eachother. My abode holds 4 females, no boys. If that have been the case i could be somewhat extra in contact. yet I nevertheless replace interior the provides of my sister and my little ones and occationally my mom. No biggy

it most probably has something to do with culture. the way you were brought up at home and what is perceived correct in society. i applaud the upbring that you have. it is hard for most to accept the fact that nudity is an everyday occurence, being that society says that nudity is s somewhat taboo subject.

People in the US and Canada think things are "gross". North America invented gross to describe bugs, birth, other people, death, food and other naturally occuring stuff. In this society we're all so self-conscious and take ourselves WAAAY to seriously.

You are talking about US, think about other countries where sex is a Taboo. I guess we need to have better understanding between people to be that open. What do you say?
