Your cat is trying to get your attention. Mine does this when I have been gone for a while or when I am really interested in what I am reading.
Below is a link to sites that offer a variety of answer's to some cat facts.
Hope this helps!
PS Sounds like your cat loves you, or else it would be more destructive with its behavior.

There are 2 theories on this. One is that cats have developed a special organ in their abdomens that allows them to read print. Two is that when they see us focusing on boring black and white pages, they feel sorry for us and give us something better to look at, their own beautiful selves.
Research continues.

Simple because they love you. My cat used to climb on my husband every time he read the ,since he passed away resently she misses him very much as I do, now when I sit on the sofa & as some as I get up she's in my place, & when I get ready for bed she,s right away on my pillow of coarse I don,t want cat hair on oillow.but I love my kitty, my husband gave her to me when she was only 6 wks. old. She's 8 now & she's all I have to keep me company. of coarse I have friends too. there's nothing that I wouldn't do for my kitty, enjoy her{him} they love you BE happy.

They want attention. They sit on my homework, the newspaper, everything. If I am on the computer to long they will come sit on my lap or sometimes they will come sit on my keyboard. I have a laptop so they are covering everything. They like attention!

they want attention. Cats are very jealous, sometimes.
when my cat does that, I just pet him a bit. Well, until he has enough petting and gets up. Then I pick my book up and read flat on my back...

My theory is that they like to be where we are focusing our gaze in a calm and passive manner. My cats also love to sit on newspapers, letters and other paper products, perhaps for the warmth that radiates back to their bodies?

My cat Scabby does this. I study a e book or a mag and he or she comes over and take a seat on it, so stressful. I dont believe her on it so I could desire to pass her simply by fact she in specific situations has a leaky bum bum! Or whilst she strikes there somewhat pee dribble that places me off reading or touching my magazine LOL. Dont hassle, a selection of of cats do this. they only locate it comforting and prefer your interest!
