Many of them do, but must do so anonymously so they don't get hit up by every Tom, ****, and Harry who thinks he needs a free ride. People who have won the lottery have said that it was the worst thing that could have happened to them because they would get calls all the time from strangers demanding money. Also, rich is a perceived term. Anyone who has more money than you do may seem rich to you. But they may not necessarily have a lot of actual cash on hand to be handing out - a lot of their money may be tied up in land or other assets. It is not the responsibility of the "rich" to sell off what they have worked hard to earn to help the poor. Just because they are rich on paper doesn't mean that they don't give to the poor - Bill Gates has his educational foundation that Warren Buffet just donated billions of dollars to support. Warren Buffet is not giving his money to his family, but donating most of it to charities of his choice. People have a tendency to judge the rich when it is not necessarily justified.

Most wealthy people do help the poor. Some donate money and others donate time and skills. There is a point, however where the wealthy must draw a line of how much of their EARNED wealth they are willing to use to help others. Unless someone is born into a wealthy family, the way to become wealthy is through hard work, dedication, and being financially wise. You don't expect someone who has practiced good financial self control and worked hard in their profession to just give everything they have away to others do you? There has to be some reward or benefit for hard work. It is annoying to me to hear about poor people who complain about being poor but are not willing to study hard in school in order to get the better jobs that will provide them with a better quality of life and/or are not willing to work a steady job when one is possible for them. Granted, not everyone has the same access to quality education and there is a great deal of discrimination in the world, but I'm talking about those people who have access to a good education and other opportunities but who just choose to slack off and expect to have a free ride.

Its not fair to profile all rich people in the same category. Its really about being humble and remembering where you came from. I'm not talking about those people who grew up with a silver spoons in their mouth, living off trust funds, never worked a day in their life waiting for inheritance or planning to kill a rich family member for their inheritance. I don't think they can relate to the poor and the needy because they never had to deal with social issues unless they had something to gain. There are plenty of examples in history where the rich got rich off the poor. With money comes power. That's why the rich get richer and the poor stay poor. There are a lot of those rich people who grew up who had to struggle to get up out the ghetto and some of them know what it means to give back to the less fortunate.

They do help the poor but there are many rich who have come from very poor background. You need to make your own riches and not depend upon some rich man to feed you. The other part is there are many rich who like to suppress the poor for their own benefit. I would rather make it clear this way by saying the rich should offer a way to the poor to make his own living not just give alms...

The wealth the rich people earned is their own and no one else's....giving out money to the poor which by no way belongs to the poor is absurd....

i think the wonder of the whole thing is that there ARE a lot of more wealthy people who DO give a lot to those less well off

and also those who are determined to tackle the CAUSE of poverty are the real unsung heroes

some who are the most poor are often the most generous with the little they have got whereas some who have enough and more to spare seem to get paralyzed when it comes to giving to those in need

it boils down to the attitude that people have towards their belongings and others

I have heard it said that you can either love people and use things or - love things and use people

when you are more well off the latter is more of a temptation than if you are less well off

I believe many some do, i read about celebrities who donated money to the people in need. Jim Carrey donated like a million dollars, or even more to the victims of tzunami in Asia, as well as lots of celebrities did. There are lots of organizations that depend on donations, and they exist, so I think many actually do donate.

Because they like everyone else are selfish. The poor do not share money, so why should the rich share theirs especially when they worked for it and earned it. No, I'm not rich, but if only....
