It celebrates Jesus' Resurrection.

Don't confuse it with Saturday, which was the sabbath.

It WAS NOT CHANGED BY ROME OR THE CATHOLIC CHURCH. From the beginning Christians assembled on Sunday. Numerous first and second century writers bear that out.

Chapter 14 of "The Didache" -the teaching of the 12, a document written by an unknown author in the last half of the first century - or certainly before 120, bears the title "The Sunday worship" and begins "On the Lord's day..."

Justin Martyr, First Apology, 156 A.D. "...And on the day called Sunday, all who live in cities or in the country gather together to one place, and the memoirs of the apostles or the writings of the prophets are read, as long as time permits; then, when the reader has ceased, the president verbally instructs, and exhorts to the imitation of these good things. Then we all rise together and pray, and, as we before said, when our prayer is ended, bread and wine and water are brought, and the president in like manner offers prayers and thanksgivings, according to his ability, and the people assent, saying Amen; and there is a distribution to each..."

While the clear evidence from early Christian writers indicates that Christians assembled on Sunday, They are completely absent of any claim or notice that this was a change in practice. Therefore, the claim posited that the assembly originally took place on Saturday is completely without basis.

These people with their false claims that the early church met on Saturday need to get a clue. JEWISH Christians often attended synagogue services AND TAUGHT ABOUT JESUS - UNTIL THEY WERE KICKED OUT. But that was NOT the Christian assembly which was always on Sunday or "the first day of the week."

Sunday was never chosen. Catholics appointed Sunday in an attempted military Coup on God's democratic institutions.

The pope, a military dictatory of sorts killed many people who did not agree with him at the time. Sunday is indeed the devel's day of worship.

Sunday was the day that the romans decided should be the day of worship. People worked all other days, and went to the temple to worship the god of the day on Sundays. If christians wanted to worship in a Roman city, they had to do it on Sunday, or not at all

Sunday is the day God rested when he made the world. Since God rested, Christians chose to rest on this day and worship him too. Sunday is the "sabbath" day.

"In the biblical account of creation (Gen. 1) the seventh day is set as a Sabbath to mark God's rest after his work."

Don't listen to the people who replied and above and below me, they aren't Christians, they are atheists so they don't know what the fuk they are talking about.

Some wise person had the very sensible notion you have to stop working at least one day a week and then it is possible to think and consider matters spiritual and it may be something to do with why the day is named as it is. Pre christian beliefs? Don't know much about the faith of Jewish people but isn't their holy day Saturday?

The Mark of the Beast
There is no such law in the Bible. It is a law of the Holy Catholic Church alone. The Bible says `Remember the sabbath day to keep it holy.' The Catholic Church says, No. By my divine power I abolish the sabbath day and command you to keep holy the first day of the week. And lo! The entire civilized world bows down in reverent obedience to the command of the Holy Catholic Church
