I served with co's my first time in the Army (1972-1974). They worked as cooks, medics, finance, etc. There are some that I have talked to, that for religious reasons, would join the military, if they did not have to carry a weapon. Co's were also in all wars, until the mid 70's, when the last drafty was drafted (1973, I believe it was).

No, they should not be allowed to join the military. It's purpose, and the oath you take at enlistment/re-enlistment, is to support and defend the constitution of the United States....that is something you cannot do half way. Let them volunteer at the nearest USO, work as a civilian on a U.S. military base or as a military contractor if they want to 'do their part'. But not in the uniformed military services.

Yes, there are many jobs they can and have done. There are many positions the military has to fill that are not combat related including thousands right here in the United States. If they can fill non combat positions that frees up people that don't mind combat to fight. This in itself puts more combat troops in the field and is a great asset for the military. In my opinion, all positions in the military are important whether combat or not and a soldier should not be denigrated for any reason.

If that is allowed there is no need to have a military. COs shall never go near the military ever.

I would not. I prefer the person next to me to take care of themselves while watching my back, as that is what I will be doing for them. If they aren't capable of doing that, then they can support the military in some other fashion, like paying taxes and saying thanks................

I would never go to war with a man or woman that is not willing to kill to protect me while it is my turn to sleep, cause they know that when it is there turn to sleep, they can sleep well.. I will be on full alert and ready to protect them with whatever force neccesary.
