What an exciting time for you. At 6 months a baby should begin stage 1 weaning on to solids because the milk alone will not satisfy their hunger, plus stores of iron that they are born with will start to run out. For a successful transition onto solids - start off slowly. Baby rice is a great 1st food. This is mixed with formula or breast milk into an almost liquid form. I'd try this for 1 meal a day for a week or so. If this is tolerated well you can start trying on puree veg and fruit. Classic favourites are Apple, pear, banana, sweet potatoe & carrots. Introduce 1 food at a time - pureed and mixed with formula milk and try for 1 meal a day for 3 or 4 days to check for alergies. Once several tastes have been introduced you can start mixing the flavours. The schedule that's been suggested to me is...
Morning - breast or bottle
Lunch - breast or bottle + rice (later puree)
Mid afternoon - breast or bottle
Tea - breast or bottle
Bed - breast or bottle
When baby is 7months + you can start to introduce a second 'solid' meal a day - follow their cues - if they love their solids - introduce a second meal earlier.

You can start with whatever baby food you want! Most parents start with rice cereal or the banana baby food.

See how it goes with your son. For a few months, he won't even be eating a whole jar a day. Give him baby food once or twice a day, and see how he takes it. For several months, formula will still be his primary food.

Does he have cereal? Start with things like oatmeal, cream of wheat, etc. and slowly add foods. Add veg after cereal, then pastas, meats, fruit and sweet stuff last. I heard it helps them develop a taste for veg and healthier options. Proteins are hard to digest. Try 3 meals at meal times and snacks. Phase out the bottle.

start with one food at a time- 3-4 days or so, that way you know if he has an allergic reaction, which food it came from. veggies first so he gets used to them before the sweet fruit. Dont get discouraged it will take a few tried for him to decide wether he likes a food or not... veggies first. My kids love green beans the best! good luck!
