These are the best sources for classic car values.

There are a couple of questions that need to be answered to determine the value of your late father's car. The condition of the vehicle is going to make a lot of difference in the value. You say it was his "pride and joy", and that he drag raced it.

Is the car stock, with the original unmodified engine? is the body modified? Is the interior original? How many miles are on the car? Does it run well? What exact model is it?

Depending on the condition, and it being original or not the price can vary greatly. It could be worth $8000 or less or it could be worth $200,000 in show condition. Without seeing the car, it would be hard for me to tell!

NADAat your local library or online at www.nada.com can help you they are teh standard for lenders. You would have to look under classics and that will give you a baseline. Also if you know some of his old racing buddies they can help too.
