For a start you could search the web for dogs for the handicapped. This is what I found when I searched. If you have a red cross or a support group for the challenged in your area I would also try to contact them. I am so sorry to hear another good guy and his family have been hurt. My heart goes out to all that have such selfless jobs. Best of Luck

Auburn (not a fan) University in Alabama (ROLL TIDE!!!!) has a dog training program for everything from police dogs to handicapped dogs and so forth. I do not know the contact information for them, but if you could contact the school I am sure they can direct you to whoever neccessary. With your husband having served as an officer, they may even be able to work up a special deal with them. I have known people to get those dogs for free from the school to aid in the training of them. Good luck to you in this endeavor and tell your husband thank you one thousand times over for his sacrifice to the public. It is terrible to hear this has happened. Prayers go out for him.

Canine Companions For Independence. If their system doesn't suit your needs, ask whom they would recommend. Also phone Guide Dogs For The Blind & ask for suggested agencies to contact. Phone your local community college Disabled Student Services & ask who they might refer you to in your area as a good resource person for these questions. Also ask a Social Worker & In Home Health Services in your county who they might recommend. I'm saying a prayer for a merciful blessing on this and your whole situation. And kudos to you for sticking by your husband' s side in this. It was truly a sacrifice made by alll the family, and I thank you all for this man's service to his community

There are several non-profit organizations that will help you to find the right dog to assist your husband and with all of his service to the community I would imagine that the department would help with the cost if you approched them. Good luck to you and yours.

I think you should contact officials in the city government. They would know what to do and how to make it happen.
