December and January are historically the best times to buy big screen TVs (in the US). College bowl games and then the Superbowl. Obviously, the Superbowl makes January really busy for TV sales. Also, you'll get good delivery options as well since all the retailers will be promising delivery before certain gamedays.

And if you are planning on getting a flat screen, don't be afraid to go with a lesser known brand. As long as you do some research (TV forums are the best place to find info) and get a set that has good specs and performance, you'll save a ton of money and the quality will be the same if not better.

You'll get the best deals, and usually some extras, around Super Bowl Sunday. Places will usually throw in a TV stand, free delivery and interest free financing over a certain amount of time to try and sell the product. If you really want one now, look for closeouts, those will be your best deals.

Good answers here but the BEST time of the year to buy any high dollar item in the US is JUST before tax time. As soon as people start getting their income tax returns they don't care what they have to spend to get what they've been looking at all year and retailers know this.

It doesn't really matter what time of the year it is. Check around at stores and wait for them to have sales. It's better to be patient and save money in certain situations. As for me, I just bought an 1100 dollar plasma not to long ago for my room at best buy. I didn't wait for any special time of the year. I just got it because it makes for a nice addition to a house and they last for many years.

The last few days of ANY month

Most Salespeople are on a commission based salary .

If they have not met their quota of sales for the month , they will be very keen to get a sale off you . ( Normally store cost + a real small commission ! )

That means in some cases they can keep their jobs , Yes I know it is unfair , but that is a sad fact of life .

Use that to your advantage , try a lot of stores and see what salesperson will cut the price to the bone for you and then make your purchase from them .

After you have paid , SMILE as you have got yourself a fair deal and it's a good chance you have helped the salesperson keep their job .

Win / Win for both of you :)

holiday season.. christams .. new year and also at the end of the financial year. Although keep an eye out for new technology advances.. When a new model comes out the older one a month later drops in price. ALso bargain with them.. we just bought an LCD and grabbed 300 off for just asking about it.
