The truth hurts because it points out something in us that isn't pretty, it's not perfect but it is what it is and it's not something that we can change. Alot of times we already know the truth about ourselves but we're in denial about it. Hearing it from someone else means that it's really there and really exists so we should either accept it or work on it.

I don't think its the truth that hurts us, it's the way it's presented to you. I know I always want to be a better person & Christian. When my sister tells me something she does it with love & concern, and tells me not to hurt me
or in a judgemental way, she wants the best for me. So in turn I listen to her & take what ever she says to heart. Now when my brother tells me something, he's a very hurtful & hateful person, so I tend not to listen to anything he say's. He's very judgemental, he's right I'm wrong. He has some great traits, but giving advise or talking about my problems, he's not the one to go to.

Because it tears away at your warm, cozy blanket of lies and exposes you to the cold, harsh environment of reality. Some people can't handle reality, so they make up their own little world with lies and deception. They sometimes begin to believe the lies themselves, whether it be dellusion or denial. When confronted with the truth, they are forced to deal with the issues they have worked so hard to bury. They are forced to deal with their true selves.
There are some people who the truth cannot hurt - The people who accept it. They are the lucky ones. They are the happy ones.

Because it's not what you wanted to hear.
(for example: You ask your boyfriend if you look pretty in the dress you are wearing. He says no. You're hurt because you wanted him to tell you "yes, you look pretty". Instead he told you the truth.) Same goes for other situations. (your boyfriend, who you love with all your heart, tells you that he doesn't want to be with you any more. It hurts because you don't want him to say that. You want him to say that he loves you and never wants to lose you.)
