I am white, and I don't think that.
That's kind of like saying I am Christian so I'm responsible for all the wars through the ages. I am a Christian but I have never started a war or fought in a war.
I don't have a religion of war, I have a relationship with God and I hate war. I do believe at times war is the only way to stop evil and therefore is necessary.
If you look for a problem you will find one. I am not ignorant, I believe Jesus was born a Jew, he would most likely have had Olive colored skin, curly dark hair and dark colored eyes. But I don't make an issue of it one way or another, Jesus was all things to all people.
Try not to lump all people into one group.

I am a white/American Indian & I do not think that Jesus Christ was white. He was born of a Jewish mother, & most likely had olive skin tones. The pictures that most generally that are accepted as a depiction of Christ, show Him as fair skinned, with blue eyes as the artists are attemtpting to show a form of "light". Since white is a non color & in art can give a luminous glow to the person being portrayed, it was generally the most accepted color, having nothing to do with racism. As for the eyes being blue, most likely it is because blue symbolises water, the Holy Spirit within us all....

I am white and I know that Jesus would probably look like an everyday Jewish male, a little darker than most white people. It is more than likely an ethnic thing. I have seen a black Jesus in black churches and it doesn't bother me at all. Jesus isn't about color. He died for everyone, so what does it matter how anyone pictures him as long as we do not lose sight of who Jesus really is, Our Lord and Our God.

well he wasn't 'white' as in 'caucasian' - but im sure he was fair skinned. He was Hebrew (which is actually quite different from Arabic) - most Jews today are still a pretty homogenous group, descended from the same Hebrews Jesus descended from. Look at Israeli Jews: fair skinned.
Any non-Arab; non-European bred Jew in the Mediterreanean Middle East: Israel, Syria, Turkey, etc. are going to have similar features to Jesus: not blue-eyed caucasians; but fair/olive skinned.

Would it matter if he were purple with poke a dots? Since he clearly stated, "the flesh profits nothing, the words I speak, they are spirit and they are life", then that should go without saying. If he were African, which he wasn't, I'd still receive Him as Savior. What do you think of those pictures that make him look like a picture off a Mo-Town album? Do those bother you too? Personally, I don't care what race He was, or what He looked like, I'm just glad I know Him as Lord, God and Savior and that He has a place for me in His New Jerusalem.

I'd say he was Semite, that means light brown skin, brown eyes, hair black or brown, maybe reddish.
At the time of Jesus "white" people were the primitives at the end of the world.

Why do black and white people think he was the messiah? That's a much more interesting question. Also, why do people need some crutch of religion to tell them that no matter how horribly they acted while they were alive, all they have to do is ask some guy who live in the B.C. for forgiveness they will go to heaven? Wake up people, if there is an afterlife, it has nothing to do with your imaginary god's ethnicity.

Jesus' physical appearance is whatever each race and nationality wants it to be. I think we instinctively imagine people looking like ourselves.
Why are there sometimes black Santa Clauses for black children? St. Nicholas was white. It's for the same reason. I don't see any harm in either case as long as people are tolerant and understanding of each other

Actually, most ethnic people that I know also think he was white. Most feel he was a somewhat tanned, rugged type of guy. I think religious art has propogated the creamy white complexion but I don't think most people, even the very religious, really believe that is an accurate depiction.

as a WHITE person I can assure you I do not think that jesus was white so maybe change the question to read why do SOME white people think this I have seen people that think jesus was black but to generalize is rather racist
