In the early history of Christianity in Europe, power and money was a big part of the pull away from paganism. Even before that time however, religion has always had some type of political pull. Now, I know that there are sincere "believers" of many religions that are not pushy or rich. However, the others make respecting religion very difficult.
I just wish that people could realize that you can be respectful, kind, and make good decisions WITHOUT being religious. I know many athiests with outstanding morals. Character is what you choose not just a teaching of a religion.

WOW..you need to turn off the TV for a bit. Spend a little quality time at the Library. It might actually surprise you to read for yourself what God has to say, rather than "speculate". Also, not ALL churches have "hard wood benches"... lol... some of us have upgraded! There are many things that happen in this world that are supernatural, unexplainable to humanity, & just because you don't understand them, or haven't seen them personally, or have never experienced these type of things for yourself...does NOT mean that these type of events are not REAL.
While I am not personally a fan of the Catholic church & all that it stands for, I DO BELIEVE in the Holy Bible & all that is written within it's precious pages! I hope someday you will take the time to check it out for yourself...you might just be surprised by what you find!

Yes, everyone should stop giving to church because then the poor and homeless will really be in trouble... no more World Vision, or Red Cross, or Salvation Army... and I think that Christian ministry, relief work, and missionary work are some of the lowest paid professions around - many churches do not even pay a minister, so almost all money given goes to help those in need.
BTW, stranger things have happened than a virgin giving birth.

I disagree with you because you are mentioning organized religion and the Bible in the same breath. In the book of James, acceptable religion is charity for widows and children.
Have you ever read the Bible? Most of the people who I know who discount it out of hand have never cracked its cover. The Bible is actually a compilation of writings, written by 40 different people over a 1600 year period. It's also the only scripture that claims to be the actual Word of God.
Before you dismiss it, you really should take a second look...

sounds like you are running from yourself. well the truth. you are scared to submit cause you have a calling on your life. you want to justify your wrong doings so all that you know or that you dont understand you criticize and put down. we fall or perish for lack of knowledge or and a vision. dont be scared and give in you have been under a lot of pressure and about ready to give in. get by yourself one night and listen to that still voice of the Lord. or be in a hospital bed i hope not and what or who will you call when the nurse or doc are no where around and your prognosis aint so cool. it has already been implanted in you just need nourishing and i pray that it dont be a serious trial or tribulation before.but only you can go through it to make it and change. or come to you. and to answer the original question. some of the churches or preachers or synagogues are only out for the money they use peoples weaknesses and make it a business venture. instead of being called to the ministry they call themselves. some accept the funds to pay for the services to stay on as a home. and then there are some that are on a payroll.

NO, because in the Jehovah's Witness religion they do not ask for any money . the whole world wide organization is based on voluntary donations. However some individuals my use religion in inappropriate ways to attain wealth.

I think alot like you and I agree with alot of what you said, BuT - some people are seriously hard core and no matter what you tell them they just don't see it.
That's the beauty of different beliefs i guess.
I also see that religion is behind every war since history can remember. It's rich, it rules countries and it costs lives with crazy dedicated followers.... which is funny because no religion says "killing is faith".

I personally don't think that ONE religion is a farce. I believe the actions of SOME of its members are. I'm not too ignorant to put my trust in man though, so I dig a little deeper to find my truth. Maybe that's just me.
