Hi Susan
Here is my recipe for bread and butter pickles:
3 quarts small cucumbers (about 3lbs)
3 cups thinly-sliced small onions
2 medium green pepers,diced
1 sweet red pepper,diced
1/2 cup coarse pickling salt
4 cups white sugar
4 cups white vinegar
2 tsp. turmeric
2 tsp. mustard seed
1 tsp. celery seed
Scrub cucumbers(do not peel). Slice thinly(1/8''). Combine
cucumbers, onions, peppers and salt. Cover and let stand for 12
hours (or add 2 trays of ice cubes and let stand 3 hrs.). Drain
well. Combine sugar, vinegar, turmeric, mustard seed and celery
seed in large saucepan. Bring to boil. Add drained vegetables
and return to full boil. Pack into hot sterilized jars, covering
vegetables with hot syrup. Seal.
Yield: 6 Pints.

I can't help you.
Go to the market. Walk down the pickle isle.
Take up a jar of bread and butter pickles in right hand.
Place in basket. Proceed to checkout. Purchase.
Pickles seem like something I'd never make, just eat. Aren't they wonderful with those rolls at Thanksgiving?
