If that is true, how come:

"Then I heard the LORD say to the other men, "Follow him through the city and kill everyone whose forehead is not marked. Show no mercy; have no pity! Kill them all – old and young, girls and women and little children. But do not touch anyone with the mark. Begin your task right here at the Temple." So they began by killing the seventy leaders. "Defile the Temple!" the LORD commanded. "Fill its courtyards with the bodies of those you kill! Go!" So they went throughout the city and did as they were told." (Ezekiel 9:5-7 NLT)

And at midnight the LORD killed all the firstborn sons in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn son of Pharaoh, who sat on the throne, to the firstborn son of the captive in the dungeon. Even the firstborn of their livestock were killed. Pharaoh and his officials and all the people of Egypt woke up during the night, and loud wailing was heard throughout the land of Egypt. There was not a single house where someone had not died. (Exodus 12:29-30 NLT)

You say he wouldn't murder in the new testament and give you time to repent? Think again.

New Testament: (Acts 5:1-11 NLT)

If it is true that god changed his mind about murders like this in the new testament, what makes you think he can't change his mind again and ask you to kill an innocent defenseless old man or sexually molest a child?

Misinterpretation? Show me how this is misinterpretation then geniuses. There is no way around it. God killed babies.

2006-09-19 20:15:26 · update #3

Yes, the babies god killed were idolaters. You all make sense. You say I'm taking it out of context, but you never tell me the context it should be. And honestly, when killing babies, I don't see how to "put that in context."

Old Testament...

God was a little vengeful in those days when people wrote about him.

New Testament...

God's works were done through his son Jesus, who was human, mortal, tempted, a man, NOT without fault (before I get a accusation, I did NOT say without sin...)

My thoughts, the "tough love" approach didn't work so well so the love, peace and harmony way was institutionalized. Not saying that every Christian today believes this way, but hey, not every ones ideas and religions are different. Deal with it. I wouldn't want anyone telling me that I am wrong, so I am just following the golden rule...

But back to the question, people have invaded countries, killed certain types/kinds of people, and persecuted in the Lord's name. Would God ever ask for someone to do something horrible like molesting a child? Probably not... Would he ever ask a follower to kill an old man? Probably not. He can do it himself. Now has he ever? Records say yes. Was it without reason? No... And ending this rant I state that "Nothing is without reason, even if it's not understood."

PS - Never underestimate free will, personal Issues, or self driven people. Try to listen to everyone, never persecute, and always settle things without violence or anger. The choices you make affect the world around you.

First thing first, The bible is just a story. It was wrote to teach us morales and to scare the crap out of us so we would give the church money and follow the orders of those high in the religous ranks. second of all watch the history channel more. The guy who directed titanic ( i think ) just did a documentary on the exodus. This documentary scientifically explained how the exodus happened. from the water turning red to moses recieving the ten commandments. That waters turned red due to iron which is in the river banks. all the first born sons of egypt getting killed was due to so sort of gas created by something ( i can't remeber ). The reason why it only killed the first born sons was because in egypt at that time first born sons slept on a bed lower to the ground because they were supposed to carry on the family. And this gas only drifted close to the ground. Watch the documentary it explains it alot better than I just did. So it wasn't "god" that did that it was geography and some loney.

Precisely. Biblegod does not behave like a "superior" or "transcendant" being...he acts like a petty tyrant from a primitive desert tribe. What did the firstborn of Egypt do to deserve what happened to them? Including those who did not own slaves? What did the various tribes do that were wiped out? Why were they exterminated for a wrong that occurred a century or more previous to their destruction? Should Native Americans feel justified in wiping out all Europeans for what our ancestors did to theirs? Was there really no other way to possibly resolve the problems...like sending a few angels or messiahs to the other tribes? Or simply changing their minds? Is "freewill" so precious to God that its importance supercedes life itself? Eternity? For an omnipotent being, he sure shows a shortage of imagination...except when it comes to creative excuses.

Genocide is wrong. Murder is wrong. I don't care who orders it. Biblegod does not get a free pass from me because he's supposedly the boss. I call evil evil, regardless of where it comes from.

You are taking everything out of context. You need to study the culture of the people in the Old Testament before you decide who is killing who and why. The ancient tribes of Israel in the Old Testament were much like the warlords in Afghanistan today. They projected their image onto God because that is the way they understood everything. In the New Testament, Jesus straightened out a lot of the misconceptions about God and his plan for mankind. For example, in the Old Testament "an eye for an eye" was never meant to be taken as justification for getting even. It was meant to bring the violence level down. An "eye for an eye" really meant that if someone hit you in the eye, you could not kill them, you could only hit them in the eye in return. Jesus clarified it even more to "turn the other cheek". Please try to deepen your bible study before going off the deep end over a few passages.

All men are sinners. Even newborn babies inherit original sin from our first parents, and the universal penalty for sin is death.

God is under no obligation to guarantee a certain length of days to anyone.

An since God is the sole author of life, he alone rightly decides when a human life will end.

This may be mitigated by what actually takes place later, in the afterlife.

In old testament times, all sinners were subject to the unmitigated wrath of God, due to sin.

Today, we faithful enjoy the grace, forgiveness for sin, and peace afforded to us by Christ and his church, which allows many of us to avoid paying the full penalty due for our sins.

That's the beauty of being a Christian.

Your notion of God seems to be somewhat skewed. Keep studying.

Bible facts dude:

1) Old Testament.

2) The Israelites/Jews were God's favored people and He doesn't like it when the Egyptians mess around with them.

3) God hates wickedness and erases it from His sights.

3) It's a matter of obeying God regardless.....

New Testament...different story.

I like some of the answers above me but as far as the child molestation thing goes (are you guilty) ? God says it would be better for a millstone to be hanged around your neck and cast into the sea.

im not reading the child molesting part in here; but, you might try reading everything before and after these sections. maybe just the bible in its entirety. context my friend.

remember, in spite what many are going to say, not everyone can pick up a bible and decipher it authoritatievly. there are historical, philsophical and interperative elements that are going to be lost on most people (yes, including myself at times).

edit-

since you don't seem to be a christian why do you care so much? some of us tried giving serious answers based on our firsthand understanding of christianity; being christians and all. but if you dont want to hear the explanations then what its your question? do you have a question? or is the point of this just to say "aha, ive shown all you christians"? well all you've us is your ignorance of our faith; as well as a total lack of curiosity.

so here's a thought, if you dont like christianity, dont be a christian.

Dear Dracula(or Alucard.....sorry, I guess I got it backwards)
You can find passages like that all over the bible. The problem with people like you is that you want a God who'll let you do anything you want and just smile as you wallow in your immorality. You hate any kind of a God who is Holy and Righteous because that kind of a God is going to judge sin. All those passages are talking about sinful nations and sinful people that God finally decided to judge after giving them more than enough time to repent. You can't stand a God that judges sin. God told Joshua to go into the land of the canaanites and wipe them out. What most people don't see is that God had told Abraham 430 years earlier that the jews were going to have that land someday but he said not now because "the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet full"(Genesis Chapter 15). These people were very wicked right then but they were not wicked enough for God to judge them. God waited 430 years before he finally decided to judge them. God does everything he can to avoid judgement but make no mistake about it, God will judge every nation and individual for sinful living. That's all you have, passages showing God judging sinful people. Sin brings disease. When people start all kinds of decadent forms of sex, you're going to have disease. The possibility of sexual diseases like aids and even worse which, back in those days, would have no treatment at all, could wipe out millions. When viruses start to combine and mutate, there's no telling what you could end up with. Sinful living, especially certain sexual practices, causes these monstrous epidemics. I suspect that some of the tribes did have such diseases and anybody....man, woman or child that was infected had to be killed. If you read the passages on Joshuas conquests carefully you'll see that God didn't command everybody to be killed in every tribe. But some he did. In some tribes God said kill all men, women, children and even the animals. Why would God tell the jews to kill the animals? Animals were considered a soldiers booty in the ancient wars. It was his reward for fighting and they're not told to kill the animals in every tribe. But in some they were told that. I believe that's because even the animals in those villages were infected. Yes, babies had to be killed too. I'm not sure God is that concerned about babies since they have not reached the age of accountability and according to the christian religion anyone who hasn't reached that age automatically goes to heaven because he isn't old enough to reject God. If the baby had a disease or even if his parents were put to death in judgement it would be merciful of God to just take him to heaven then rather then leaving him there to starve. The Christian God is a Holy and Righteous God who will judge sin. Let that be a lesson to you Mr. Dracula. I have a bible verse just for you. Hebrews 9:27:

And inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment,
