I am fishing crazy and live in Fresno. If you are going with family, doing mostly cold climate family non-fishing things, then you may enjoy some light fishing outings. The trout, rainbows and browns in the park are mostly on the small side, but the views are breath taking. The best fishing in that are is outside the park on the Merced River and even Bass Lake. But to give you an idea, I live about an hour and a half from there and I spend the same amount of time to go to different areas to fish, mostly the Sierras up Hwy 168. This would be a pretty far drive from anywhere in Yosemite.
I have not been up that way recently but we had a rockslide that took out a big section of Hwy 140. This may really effect access to some of the best Merced River fishing.
Bass Lake could be pretty good fishing but you will be leaving a lot of the alpine wilderness feeling. Bass Lake a big commercial concern and even though businesses will be mostly dead at that time, the buildings, lake homes and nearby road will all still be there. But, you may still be able to rent a boat (not real sure of that) and catch a lot of fish. Fishing from the bank can be very good, but a boat also allows you to troll which can help when bank fishing is slow. You can also get to a lot more places that bankers can't fish.
Bass fishing will be tough since the bass will be hunkered down in the deep shivering. You might pull them up with dropshotting or a jig. All depends on the weather.
Weather is also a big question mark. Could be 70 or 30, could be nice or torrential rain. In October, it could be both in the same day.
Check with your cabin host or someone local to find the hot fishing place near you. Many Yosemite lakes are fishless. Also get specific fishing regulation information. There are different limits and bait type rules in and around the park.
But fishing is always worth going for us crazy's. On a cold but dry day in October, I caught a 9lb-13oz rainbow at Huntington Lake, up in the Sierras.
Good luck, tight lines and stay safe.
