Use your hand and pull back and hold (flex position) your feet to stretch the calf muscle and massage the area until pain subside and slowly release your feet. Before going to bed you might want to do some leg warm up excercise. During the night make sure your blanket is not too heavy on your legs and occasionally change sleeping position.

the fact that you're having cramps shows that you may don't rest yourself to much...if you are an athlete this must happen very often because you use your muscles intensively...there are many reason's though like dehydration, muscle overuse, muscle injuries, blood circulation problems, some nerves in your may be pressured or potassioun luckiness (if u use uretic pills for some reason)
Now some ways to prevent it is stretching...do it before you go to sleep or do some exercise..drink much water during the heat so your body not to get dehydrated,in case you are in the middle of a cramp just use some ice or try to touch something cold..if it get worse then you should visit a doctor to help you by giving you some muscle relaxing pills...
Hope i helped u enough...good luck

Leg cramps are often the result of trace-mineral deficiencies. Try eating a good variety of fruits and vegetables; also be sure to get enough calcium (milk, ice cream, cheese, etc.), as calcium is a very important element in the conductivity of nerve impulses. One good trick to help leg cramps is to extend the leg, and move the toes upward, as though you were trying to touch your knee with your big toe - this helps stretch the calf muscle.

Follow what Starrwood said. I know these things work, tried them! You can also apply Warm compresses to your legs. My Daughter used to suffer terribly from leg cramps as a young girl. And I would take 2 dish towels, soak them in fairly warm water/as warm as she could take it and wrap them around her legs. She really had bad ones but has since out-grown them. I WISH the same for you and understand your discomfort. Take-Care.
