His own disciples abandoned him at his time of need. They were scattered as sheep without a Shepherd. Jesus asked them to pray with Him for that hour and they did not understand what was to happen to them. However they got the HOLY SPIRIT which Jesus said He would send a comforter. Then they grew stronger in their faith. Have you ever done something really bad and said to yourself," I will never do that again." I think that is how the disciples felt after abandoning Jesus.

Well...they tried to but since jesus followed the path of non violence and since he know that his time was up....he instructed his deciples not to fight....and thus gave his life to save us. Besides....the disciples had to spread the word of the Lord to the whole world....for which...they had to live. Also...the disciples had to witness the resurrected Jesus...so that the holy spirit can be sent from heaven to enlighten them....besides...there are lot of other reasons....so read the bible.

The disciples did try to help Jesus in Gethsemane. Remember that Peter cut a man's ear off. But it was Jesus who stopped them. Why? Bcos if he wanted to, he could escape by himself. But he didn't bcos he had to fulfill the prophecy that he would die at the hands of the Jews. Jesus was commited to doing his father's will. When Peter said that Jesus should not die...Jesus reprimanded him, saying: "Get behind me Satan!". Satan didn't want Christ to die, so he tried to tempt Jesus to use his power and thus ignore his father's will

Peter tried to in the garden when the Roman soldiers came for Jesus, but Jesus told Peter to stop. Peter later denied Jesus, just as Jesus said he would. Peter was forgiven. They were just human men. And it wouldn't have mattered if they had tried to save Him. Jesus made the choice to sacrifice himself. He could have called down angels to save him, but he chose not to.

Before Jesus was crucified, the power of God could not exist inside of people without killing them. The apostles, by their conduct before the crucifixion, proved that we can do nothing without the power of God through the resurrected Son living in us. Jesus provided a blood sacrifice for the sin and rebellion that is the nature of man, allowing us to be inculculated by the Holy Spirit.
With the very substance of God living inside of us, there is no more fear of death, because of the cross and the power of Jesus resurrected. All of the apostles (except John, who died of natural causes) gave their lives for the faith because the Holy Spirit empowered and fortified them to give all for the sake of the gospel!!

He had told them he was to be crucified, it was to be done so our sins would be forgiven. If they would have helped him, he wouldn't have been crucified, and his reason for being on Earth wouldn't have taken place. They knew it was his reason for being here, it was meant to happen. To help him would have gone against what he wished and they would not have done that, even though it was hard to see him crucified they had to let him go through with it.

It wasn't their time. If god has a plan for everyone he planned for his own son to go down like that so we would have this history to live by.
